    Hello guys,

    I'm wondering what the 65' Skylark concensus is on the utilization of a coolant recovery tank, in particular in a bay with the original 300 and air conditioning. There isn't alot of room unless I relocate the battery to the trunk, which I'm not all together against, but it's kind of a hassle. I bought a long and slinder aluminum tank, which is too large in diameter and too long as well. Could those of you who have figured out the puzzle pieces supply me with a couple of pictures of it installed and the type of tank even a part number would be GREAT!

    Thanks,

    Doug

    P.S. If the Moderators feel this would be in a better place, please by all means move it. Thanks!

    Here's what I did on my 66 Skylark.

    When I bought it, it was polished. I glass beaded it and painted it black to blend in with the core support. I used the brackets that came with it and mounted to the corner of the radiator opening in the core support behind the grill. The overflow hose from the radiator is routed down and under the core support and the overflow tube from the canister is directed down just long enough to get below the bumper.

    Hey guys, all good input;

    LARRY70GS, good thread, but I want to give it another looking at!

    FJM568, that's a good idea, only thing is my A/C junk is in the way. I like the idea of blasting it and painting it black, I tried to get it to fit there but I think the one I bought is just too long. I'll look at it again tinight and see what I can come up with. I didn't want to block the rad but I don't think it would matter, particularly if I could get it far enought over out of the way it'd be a non-issue at that point.

    alec296, I tried that route, the only place it would go would be on the driver's side, so I'd have to cross back to the far sid of the rad which, I can do, but I'd rather have it on the passenger side. The A/C is what is screwing me on it, that and the battery space claim doesn't leave me alot of room to play with. That's why I got the very slinder cylinder type, now rethinking it maybe I should get one the same diameter, or a little bigger, just shorter.

    I guess I just need to pick a way and go with it. If I move the battery to the trunk, I'm good room wise, if I move the battery to the trunk and pull the A/C out I'm good too, space wise, but then I've got no A/C, but it's not like I use it alot. I could leave the battery and A/C in place, go with a shorter cylinder and it should fit nicely as was proven with Jim's install. I wonder if a 66' has more room between the core support/rad and the grill? Well, I have some stuff to think about so when I get home tonight I'll see if I can't knock out some yard work to free up some time this weekend. Again, thanks guys, all input is great!

    Thanks again, Doug

    See if you can move it more towards the headlights...basically in front of the battery out of the way of your a/c condenser and then just make up some appropriate brackets to fit it there. Mine really doesn't block the radiator at all, just the side tank of the radiator a little. And it doesn't really look out of place, like trying to retrofit a later plastic tank from another vehicle. I did look into doing that and it just didn't look right.

    edit...a shorter but bigger diameter one might be better, in your case.

    jcc, thanks for the pic, the jury is still out on which side I'll end up going with. I'd like to find a place on the pass side to put one, but there isn't much room, the majority of the space is spoken for so to speak! Again, thanks for the pic. Doug
