I used the Eastwood radiator paint on my newly re-cored radiator. Came out really nice. Buy 2 cans for one radiator. One can isn't enough

Stupid question, does painting a radiator effect it's performance at all? I would assume not since you guys do it. Just wondering if a layer of paint effects the thermal conductivity to any noticeable degree . . .

Paint can act as an insulator, but when you use black paint, you also get a "black body effect" in which black paint radiates the most heat because it is the most capably dissipative color for infrared (heat) wavelengths. As long as you aren't brushing it on or using a lot of thick layers, you will be ok. I doubt you would be able to actually see a difference in cooling whether the radiator is painted or not, there are a lot of other variables that will make more of an impact than paint.

Thanks Mike, that totally makes sense! I guess a non-perceptible difference is definitely worth having a nicer looking radiator.

By the way, I just went on TA's website and read about your 35th anniversary, thanks for giving so much to the Buick community! Now if I only had 4500 extra dollars I would jump on a Tomahawk block . . . :p

Thanks Pat. We appreciate everyone's continued support. I understand, but it's a deal of a lifetime! I don't think you can find an engine block of this caliber for much less in any of the other markets (Chevy, Ford, etc).
