I'm planning on going to an early Pinto rack & pinion as well as a fabricated column on my '69 backhalved car. Doesn't look too dificult, but anyone have any prior experience (read: you've actually done it) with this? Any pitfalls? Thanks. -Ron
Bumpsteer Ron When we did mine my buddy spent alot of time "tinkering"with bump steer,He cut and modified the steering arms until he liked them and then used them as templates. The finished pieces were out 3/4" plate(pretty trick). Also the pivot point on the lower control arms is offset so we cut and narrowed the rack to split the difference with pivot point of the tie-rods on the rack. All in all it was not terrible,I had a professional chassis guy with overkill "itus" do the work and it all turned out good, many items are exclusive to my car so I'm not sure if you have to do as much extra as we did. I have a few pictures during the chassis work I will send you if you'd like,we kept the rack high and tight.
Thanks Gary, Just the info I was looking for. Pics might prove useful if it's not a lot of trouble. E-mail is rlracing@sgi.net. Again, muchas gracias! -Ron
