I bought this transmission and torque convertor from a retired Buick racer in Kokomo many years ago. He was building a new motor set up when a barn fire wiped out one of his cars (the old Pink Lady) and he left the sport. Reality is now I’ll never use them. Both have been well taken care of, kept clean and dry and always indoors. The torque convertor is 10” diameter the box is so faded I haven’t a clue what the stall is. Pretty much the same story on the transmission, it is new but I cannot tell you what the internals are. I do not want to oversell/over represent these items in any way since I don’t have record any longer of their builds. Conversely, I’d like to undersell the value as little as possible. Review the pictures, ask all the questions you have and we’ll go from there. I paid $1700.00 when I bought them I’m asking $1200. For the setup. Located in West Michigan I can deliver to Pure Stocks and possibly GS Nationals
Trans clearly has transbrake, which most of the time on th400 means reverse manual valve body, there are some forward transbrakes but are not very common
Bens99gtp you are correct, it is a reverse manual valve body. I meant to add that to the typing but got sidetracked (probably by a squirrel). I did find some info on the TC it is as follows: On the trans facing side is the letter "M" on the back side or the side that attaches to the flywheel there is 951076 on one of the three mounting tabs it has two sets of numbers R981086 &R971098 and on the side of the case itself there is an "8G". Hope that information helps.
I got hold of Coan and the only thing they could tell me was it was built in 95. Is the rebuild on the trans that old?
I spoke with Coan as well and the info on the Torque Convertor is that is COA-20410 T21Q10 one that they built for the Buick, Olds & Pontiac 455's. I've not had it rebuilt I've owned it for I think 12 years. It's been in a dry clean garage.
I haven't had it rebuilt so at least 12 years back. Also, it is a 9" torque convertor not 10" as I stated. I measured the case and gave that dimension they are measured based upon the internal turbine dimensions not case structure.
No Problem. Wouldn't be that big of a deal for me to throw the parts in the car and meet you either if the timing worked out. Steve
