diamondback.jpg BEL1426001.jpg So, what Helmet do you like when you race?
I really liked the old school open face, with the snap on visor. Now I'm looking at a SIMPSON Diamondback, full face. But can get a NEW open face, BELL, SIMPSON, or other for alot less cash.
Along with protection, DOT, consider comfort, weight. style.

I prefer that style open face. Just for visibility.

Who has the best price on a new Snell SA201o helmet? I was using an open face. I want to start racing again this spring and my Snell SA2005 is now magically junk :(

Main thing for me is if they work with glasses if you wear them. Even a large helmet size was too tight with them....
Some helmets are designed for use with glasses/sunglasses.

    G-Force HYBRID helmet: https://soloracer.com/gfforcehybrid.html

Of course my fav helmet no longer made....

Use the Racequip open face I got from Summit Racing. I like to wear my sun glasses and its just easier with the open face.

Motorcycle helmets not legal for drag racing. Unless things have changed.......

What ET are full face helmets required? I'd like to use one too but I believe 10.99 and quicker needs full face.

Anyone who wants an open face helmet should first talk to Bob Makley. Bob went off the end of the track at Cecil County Dragway when his brakes failed. The car was completely destroyed when it hit some trees. Bob was wearing an open face helmet. A full face helmet would have saved Bob's jaw and teeth. Style, and looks should be secondary to protection, JMO. BTW, Bob organized a group buy of full face helmets after that incident. I still own that helmet even though it is rating expired.

A lot (not all) of the helmets you see at cycle shops are Snell and dot rated. As long as they have the proper rating it doesn't matter whether they're advertised as a "motorcycle" helmet or not. I use an hjc that was sold as such, but it's got a Snell 2015 rating and is accepted by the nhra just as a racequip/Simpson/etc any other helmet with the Snell classification would be. What you have to watch for is many cheaper motorcycle-centric helmets only have DOT cert which is no bueno.

Make sure you get the newest snell possable, if you get sa2015 it will be good for 12 years. A motorcycle helmet will have an m classification and it's not rated to handle hitting a roll bar

Interesting, I didn't know about the M roll bar thing. I dont have a roll bar, but that's good info.

Here's a good read that breaks it down pretty well.

Good info. I'm sure a full face would of prevented that injury. I would hate to go through that. That's why I posted. I dont want to regret my choice. And I would of never thought to ask about the snell #. I know you get what you pay for. I mentioned the Bell open face because of thinking better visibility. And it's a well known brand. At a fair price. But that wont work for me now. I'll look at brands listed above as well as the reviews. Snell, Ect.
    Just for the record,
I searched Jegs and Summit. Looking for a race car helmet.
Then started this post the same day. So not to make the wrong choice.
I went back to Summit and checked a variety of brands. Just to see the snell #. They all had a Snell# SA2015.
I can only guess, their updated at the same time after so many years. I'm down to Brand and model.

The Snell website reports SA2020 certified helmets should be available in October of this year (testing right now) and will be certified for 10-12 years. The SA2015 certifications will expire in the next 5-6 years. Waiting for the SA2020 would be the better deal if one could wait. Although the leftover SA2015 should be pretty cheap once the SA2020 is available.

Thanks for all the info after reading the story of the accident I believe I will go with a full face helmet I’ll have to go with a 2015 rating because I do wanna race the spring. I’m kind of out in the sticks and I do want to try it on before I buy it so maybe I’ll see if there’s some motorcycle shops that carry Snell rated helmets within an hour or so of me
