If a car doesn't have a title, how do you go about getting one? Also, if a car is in a junkyard and has a title in the previous owner's name, how do you get it in your name?:Do No:

Laws are different in every state.

In Massachusetts, a junked car will destroy it's title, but you can get a new one if you get some paperwork saying that you are bringing it back to life.

There are all kinds of other procedures for titles, you'll have to check with your Department of Motor Vehicles (or similar).

I run into this often with my vintage motorcycles, if the car is older than 1985 you can go thrugh a title service like International Title Service based in Nevada, you can find hem on the WWW, it's $75 for a motorcycle and $125 for a car, takes about 30 days and they send you all you need to get a title in your state. I've used them to get a title for my Triumph Bonneville and will be using them again for my Norton Commando

    Kurt,
Sounds like you have a few bad cycles. Is your Norton an 880? Your signature says 850. Dan

Dan, the Norton is a 850(I believe it's actually 828), biggest stock motor offered, the 880s were using Norvil big bore kits, I have a bunch of bikes right now, the 78 Honda chopper is getting cut up for parts, I'm building a "new" chopper using a 1972 Yamaha XS 650 rolling frame, raking it and using a 6" over springer front end, it'll have a Honda 450 verticle twin till I find another Triumph or BSA twin for it. I've also been working on a 1965 Sears & Roebuck 124 SS, it's built by Gilera of Italy, it's a 124 cc 4 srtoke single cyl street bike, I just got it running last night!

Thanks guys! I'm looking at a rusted out 69 skylark with a 455 and an 81 bonneville. I think(should the parents OK it and I have the funds) I'm gonna take the Bonneville and cram the 455 in it. Truly, the body on the Skylark is gone.

If you are never going to register or sell the Skylark, you probably don't need a title.

No, but it's got a clean title and the owner still technically owns it, but I think she might sell it. It's got some sentimental value for her, so I don't know how easy it's gonna be to get it. Her grandfather gave it to her as her first car in 84.
