I'm installing new carpeting in my '71 GS with bucket seats. I've forgotten if the seats bolt onto the top of the carpet or, are the seat mounting tabs installed thru slits in the carpet so that the bolts can't be seen? A picture would be helpful if possible. Thanks.
No pics, but seats are not mounted on top of the carpet. The carpet is slotted with like a "T" slot and the bolt is hidden underneath.
I can visualize the slot so the foot of the bucket basse can slide under the carpet but, what is the "T" cut for?
Right...there's a slot for the bracket, then a straight cut back from the center of the slot cut to the end of the front carpet (maybe like a 12-14" cut). When those cuts are made, you can then get at the bolts easier to remove or install the seats. For one bucket seat, there would be 4 of those "T" cuts. You can't see the cuts because they are under the seats. That's how GM did them. There was a really good web article for a Chevelle before. I'll see if I saved it.
This is not the article, I can't find it. This is just a slot cut w/o the long "T' leg. It's fine to do that, it's just harder to get at the bolt to install/remove. This is the "look" you want... https://www.chevelles.com/forums/26...native-method-cutting-carpet-seat-tracks.html
