I have a 1971 Buick Skylark with the original engine and quadrajet. I found some resipts in the car that shots that the quadrajet was rebuilt about 15 years ago. So I thought it was about time to have it rebuilt. I bought a book, rebuild kit and a float.
I starter out today to take the carb out and tok it apart. Taking it apart, I came acrosse some isues. The guy that rebuilt it last time, broke the treeds on the filter housing in front. I strugled really hard to get it out. When it was out I saw that it had been glued in with some grey metal compound. So if I want it back in, it needs to be glued back or put in new treeds.
I also found some badly worn nedels.
The secondeary trotle shaft need new bushing. It had a lot of play in it.

So now I don't know what to do. I can not just go to the shop next door to get new parts. There is not to many around in Norway working on carbs like that.

So i have started thinking about buying a new one. What do you guyes think? Should I look into a Edelbrock or Holley or should I buy a remanufactored quadrajet from the states?

    Where and who is carmantx?
It will probebly cost me $250-300 just in shipping to Amerika to have it rebuilt. And ad the rebuild and the shipping back(to Norway Europe), it is getting closer to $8-900 in total? That would be an expensive carb.... :(

Someone around here could probably sell you a decent core.

    Thanks Ceas.
I do have cores, and shipping isn't too bad. Still less money than buying something else.

Also, I do not recommend buying a rebuilt quadrajet from one of the big online retailers or big parts stores. The big reman shops do horrible things to these carbs, and many are beyond repair.

Listen to these guys... Either have Carmantx rebuild you a carb and send it to you or buy one from Everyday Performance here in the vendors section. You will never get the performance of a well built Q jet if you use an off the shelf Holley or Edelbrock carb. The shipping is worth it.... Do not go with a reman Q jet it will not work well.

I've got one off a '75 455 that was freshly rebuilt by JW shortly before I decided to go with EFI.

All this can be fixed locally by any guy you know that has the machine shop equipment. In fact, I believe Cliff Ruggles sells the tools so that you can do it yourself. Buying that will be far less than sending your carb to the US and back. Maybe you have a school nearby that trains mechanics that could work on your carb, with a good repair manual?

The ruined threads in the carburetor are caused by overtightening the nut when replacing the fuel filter. Just epoxy (or use JB Weld, there is probably a product like that where you are, but with a different name) it in and use an external filter, which is probably already in the fuel line.
