Recently removed from my 1972 Electra Every thing I find online says there was no 9 in the 5th position.
It's definitely an odd carb and doesn't match the car if the rest of the numbering is correct. From several sources I've deduced the following: 7044952 > 704 - Manufactured 1970-1975 4 - actual year of manufacture 1974 9 - mystery 5 - Oldsmobile (!) 2 - Automatic transmission It came off my 1972 Electra. It is a 4 barrel carb but the decode charts for that 5th digit all point to the following: 0 – Mono-jet 1-bbl Federal Standards 1 – Two-jets 2-bbl Federal Standards 2 – Quadrajet 4-bbl Federal Standards 3 – Mono-jet 1-bbl California Standards 4 – Two-jets 2-bbl California Standards 5 – Quadrajet 4-bbl California Standards 6 – Varijet 2-bbl Federal Standards
That is the part number on that particular part of the carb, not the carb part number. As Duane said, get the number that is stamped on the drivers side of the body of the carb. I'm guessing it will be 7042240.
Yes exactly, that is the part number of the bare casting on the float bowl. It’s not the carb assembly number like you are looking for.
Yup - mystery solved! James nailed it and it's a match for the car. Thanks for all the pointers to the real number. Stamped number was hiding under 46 years of grime.
