I am just curious if anyone knows exactly what the main body and air horn are made of on mid 70's-early 80's q-jets. It appears to be some sort of pot metal or white metal, but curious if there is a breakdown somewhere? Reason I ask is for recycling purposes. Baseplates are aluminum of course. Have a few carbs here, not worth much, nobody wants to pay shipping so trying to decide what to do (1 x 72 Buick 800cfm (trashed, warped badly, missing baseplate, missing parts), 2 x75 Buick 800cfm, 81 chev truck, 81 Vette 4 speed with electronic controls). Thanks
Pot metal. Depending on the level of maintenance and/or storage, I've seen some at 45 years of age look fine, others all pitted and worn out with cracks, stripped inlet threads, warped sealing surfaces, etc. If you're looking to move the carb bodies you've got, just clean 'em up and post some good pics with the carb numbers clearly stated. You'll likely get some good bites and move a good number of them, especially the Buick cores. Even trashed, there's pieces that still can be saved.
