I am installing a Heat shield on my 72 GS . BUT installing .5 spacer under the heat shield. Because I think is a better fit as far as how the gaskets will line up. Am I gonna have a problem? Or am I fine!? And if I install the spacer what will I do about the choke rod not reaching? Need advice
I found that a 3/8 to 1/5 inch-ish phenolic or plastic spacer works fine with stock divorced choke (on a '70) and the fuel line has sufficient flex to still reach the carb. You'll need an extra gasket of course, longer bolts, and maybe some cut down breather-to-hood seals (I go with about 1.5 inch).
Will the choke thermos rod need bent to extend more? Or fine the way it is? So are you saying to stack gaskets on the choke housing?
You will need to adjust or lengthen that choke rod. OR You could install one of my patent- pending carb mounted electric choke conversion kits. Eliminate the guesswork. http://www.everyday-performance.com/electric_choke.htm
I did virtually nothing to my choke rod; bend it a little if you need too. Two carb to manifold gaskets necessary with this setup, if you didn't think of it already.
