I agree with both of the above comments - and am in no way justifying either of their actions, but this has been going on since the days of D. W. Griffith. If you don't know who he was, Google him.

Since movies began, there have been many young ladies told if you want to be a star, hit the couch. Those low life's will get theirs I hope.

Everybody is a VICTIM these days. A lot of gals "hit the couch" voluntarilly in many different situations. Most just forget to recall that their unforgettable nightmare was not with someone famous. It despises me when they try to turn these "unreported" situations into a crime to distract the general public from the normal weekly agenda. Crime should be reported. If you don't consider it a crime, you are NOT a victim.

I agree 100%....The same problem I had with those who thought it was OK for even the prez to lie about it. If you can lie to your wife you can lie to any of us. After Hef died I actually put a little time into thinking about how we as a society put WAY to much emphasis on wealth as a basis for one's character. If the truth be known,I think we have a lot more wealthy idiots than I care to count. Shame on these two morons mentioned, but shame on the media and all the "victims" that obviously were not kidnapped at the time.

X2. As to the "hitting the couch" comment - it depends on your definition of "voluntary". If you are a beautiful young lady and you have the choice between working as a waitress in a coffee shop for minimum wage plus tips, or becoming famous and making millions; to me there is a bit of a question exactly how voluntary that the trip to the couch actually is.

Be it lying, cheating, stealing, using sex as a bargaining chip (from either side), mistreating our fellow man, or waging war, many of us are only as civilized as we’re forced to be. Kinda the flipside of the ‘absolute power’ coin.

Those who whored their way to their ultimate goal make it very difficult for a person with morals to get to the same goal. It's a shame, but too many have 'paved' the way spread legged. And there are way too many lecherous asshats out there to exploit them.

That's exactly the train of thought that brought this to the point it is now, people used to be afraid to come forward with these type allegations, it would usually make the accuser look like the bad one, finally people can bring it forward without the scarlet A being branded on them. Of course there are some rich powerful sexual predators that can say and do what they want.

Exactly the reason that "The Scarlet Letter" is considered to be a timeless piece. People are supposed to evolve through education, attrition, genetics, etc. There is no law against being a philanderer, and most states do not recognize "alienation of affection" as a defense in divorce situations. In other words, people are Free to do as they want without regard to how it affects others involved in a marital situation. Do not confuse whoring in its verb form as to being limited to just women. Everyone involved in these types of situations is in it for something.

SMH, it's for it's literary significance not the reason you would like to spin it. Bet you are all for aspirin as well.

You can always "volunteer" to go back to the coffee shop. You are in charge of your own decisions and self respect. Nobody else.

You got that right because somebody HAS to do the serving of coffee ,but "hitting the couch" is not necessary in a productive society. It only is necessary in an environment where you need to CREATE jobs. I should also point out that "hitting the couch" in a regretful way seems to be reserved for those who like to blame others for their "not so good"decisions. My earlier post was not meant to belittle these people who are supposedly victims, but to point out that the real "victims"are the ones that are married to these morons or legally tied to them financially or otherwise. They actually are a victim of society because most states do not recognize their contractual marriage obligations as being anything other than verbal. So I would say that my point is mainly focusing on the philanderers, home wreckers, and so on as being idiots, but most likely well within the boundaries of law for being such.
