I made the trip to Stanton this year for the 2020 Pure Stock Musclecar Race. What a a great event. over 100 cars entered. I actually remembered to take some pictures
I did the body and paint on the GSX about 3 years ago. Harry's sons Steve and Mike are good friends of mine and Steve called me today and told me that Harry made 34 passes this weekend with the car. He's 76 years old and still having the time of his life with that car.
Now.....this is what it's ALL ABOUT! Harry is my Role Model....Love hearing news like this! Harry Rocks!
34 passes, or 3-4 passes? If indeed he made 34 passes during any weekend at any age that would be impressive, but at 76 years old it is really impressive!
The Aqua Mist is Jim Robertson, his grandson Cory handled driving duties. The all white is a 70 Skylark with a 350. If memory serves me correctly there were 14 Buicks in attendance and on the track.
Is that Lime Mist on the 71's? I love the post cars. I think I'd like a 71 Lime Mist post car. Wing windows are my spirit animal.
34 is what he told me, and if you knew Harry this would not be hard to believe. Steve said he took the car into town to get gas and it took 17 gallons
I have to make a correction from my 1st post. I had lunch with Mike today and found out that Harry is 78, not 76, so I guess you'd call him a young 78?
Dave, sorry we did not catch up. Things happen so fast and everyone's so busy. Hope you and your family are well.
Russ, thanks for sharing the pictures! This was my 16th year coming to the races and my 1st year as a participant...albeit not in a Buick! I did get paired with Herman Gross in his beautiful 69 GS400 (pictured above). He got me off the line every time! I had a great time and the event is must see if you like to see real muscle cars getting put to use like they were originally designed to do! Thanks to Dave Hemker for helping to get my Q-jet and timing sorted out on my Firebird. Jeff Mann's 70 Skylark 350 was running pretty good for a new build and first time out (13.7x@100 mph)!
Scott, I really enjoyed racing you this past weekend. The cars were very evenly matched. I'm sure if your car wasn't a 4-speed the outcome would have been different! They are very hard to get going off the line. Dave Hemker is the only guy I know that can slam gears with a 4-speed.
I love your Firebird! I have a Buccaneer Red '74 Esprit, so I obviously grabbed a few pictures of your car at the race this weekend. You did a really nice job on it. Here's a picture of my '74, although it's nowhere near as nice as yours.
