Would like to read your take on this; for several years now I have been hoping to purchase a GSX[ 10-10,stg1,4spd]nothing has happened so far.I keep coming back to Psalms 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart". I definetly desire this car, but probably owning a white GSX will do little to further the kingdom of God. So, is clinging to Psalms 37:4 a " valid " use of this great verse?

Well, are you clinging to the first part of the verse? "Delight yourself in the Lord". Personally if I make God the desire of my heart first of all, above all things, then he will provide for me. I always have to remind myself that I'm on his clock so when the time is right, I will get what I want. And if I don't, then He has a better plan for me and I have to just open my eyes and accept it.

    desire

I've found that the desire he is refering to is a spiritual one! BUT he does also mean in this life too! when you desire him more than things or people. He gives you your hearts delight !which of course is Jesus !!!. "seek ye first the kingdom of God and ALL these things shall be added on to you " comes to mind ! It has been my experience that no one can out give Jesus PERIOD ! ! ! ! this is a personal experience for me, not only in material possesions but in ALL things. Family/friends/cars/ home/job/finances it just goes on and on ,his provision ! But WE have to have Patience also! He trys us and sees where we are in his family/faith example: when he urges us to speak or to tell someone about his grace, thats kingdom desire and then theres our desire Lord I really want a really nice buick ! he may put that on a back burner until we let him find out ( he already knows the answer )( but he shows us the proof that we are indeed on the right path ) we have to let go of it and place it in his hands. Example: could'nt sell my 65 GS a few years ago ! priced right/beautiful car, went on for quite awhile. went to the nats in Columbus and Poof! traded my 65 for a beautiful 71 gsx clone ! wow ! he did it again  Psalm 37 is special to me for many reasons as he gave that psalm to me many years ago during some very difficult times. so in closing SEEK HIM FIRST and let him do the work ! believe me he can handle it ! I believe you are taking a narrow view of this verse, without "cross-referencing" it to the rest of what the Bible tells us.

My father-in-law believed that the Lord has to answer any prayer. The trick, though, is that the answer to your prayer might not necessarily be what you were asking.

Perhaps the fact that you haven't gotten the GSX yet is the Lord's way of saying you need to make a change in your life (more school or a job change or whatever). And if you make this change, maybe there will be a change in circumstances that allows you to obtain this goal. Or, the change might make you realize that a GSX isn't the REAL thing you are after, there is some other satisfaction in life that you are craving.

Keep praying, and keep LISTENING. If you try hard to listen to the Lord, you will go along the path that will be best for you in the end- GSX or not.

What's your price range on the GSX? :Brow:

I have no details, but someone sent me an email inquiring how to identify a true 10-10 GSX stage1 4-speed. They told me they passed on the car. I'll try to get contact information for you from the person. Maybe it will work out after all :bglasses:

Needs and Wants are to very different things. To simplify things as spiritually correct as I can get, I'd say this........If your "Want" becomes your obession (or even your god), then you need pass on it. If you keep yourself in check, read your Bible, Tithe, demonstrate Christ's teachings in your life, then I say happy motoring in your GSX :3gears:

I have this thought scribbled in my Bible and I try to live it as a motorhead who also likes to bracket race when I can.

    "I"- by Him
    "Mine"- from Him

This keeps me in check. Its a general term to say "I" alot or "mine" alot. Keeping the real meanings of those terms is important to the Christian.

I'd hate to see that! If you ever decide to change that, please let us, the body of believers in Christ, know. :TU:

    Amen Dan,
68Skylark2, If you knew where I was prior to Sept. 10,1998 you would not believe where I am now. Man I was right where you are now! So if you think there is nowhere to go but down man I feel bad for you. Man I spent half my adult life in jail, and any other thing you can think of I've been there and done that! I can't explain everything but I know one thing, there is something a whole lot better out there than where I was going. I'm living with cancer right now and you know one thing I'm still better off now than where I was. Man I'm not trying to preach to you because the was the last thing I ever wanted to hear when I was running the stuff I was doing. Dude if you have any ?'s feel free to e-mail me anytime. Sorry for the soapbox crap but you're me 6+ years ago. :TU:

    mjoe7 In the beginning God...

    mmm lets see.

Not to get to technical but here are my thoughts.

Live a Godly life, pray, work lot's of overtime and save your money. Then when you have about $30,000 start looking for that GSX.

I am doubtfull God would honor going into debt that far for a "want", so that is one way to know His will in that regard. Most anyone can go into debt and get something. I mean you don't have to pray to go into debt we usually pray to get out of debt. The bank is more than happy to charge you intrest on your want.
Be sure to never make your love for cars more important than your relationship to God or your family ect.

My pastor always said this. "Never love anything that can't love you back."

I still have a notebook from highschool that I wrote down my dreams of a 1970 GS Buick and all the parts and prices in. (Fast forward 6 years from highschool.) I now have one Praise God! It was a trip getting there. Here is a little true story in a nut shell...
It was when I finally started getting my rebelious life straightend out after highschool that God provided me a great job with a coworker that just happened to have my dream car, a 1970 Buick Skylark (GS clone) with a 455! At the time he did not have it for sale, but I told him if he ever wanted to sell it I would be interested. I then bought a rust bucket 1967 Skylark and then sold it as it would cost way to much to restore. Then 2 years later my coworker asked me if I was still interested in his GS and the rest is history!

I hope you found the way God worked in my life to encourage you in your quest for a dream GSX. It was a span of about 7 years before my hearts desire was fulfilled. I still consider it a want more than anything. Don't read to deep into it. God will bless and He likes us to enjoy things also. He made all things for us to enjoy within His bonderies.

Though my car is still in need of things to be where I want it, I am pleased. I have my whole life in front of me to finish it. It's on hold now due to my first child on the way. Just take it a day at a time and remember where your priorities are.

All you guys have provided great advise. I'm praying for you 68Skylark2.

    Good luck!
    Mike

    psalm

I believe that verse from Psalms plays both ways.

God will give you; the desires of your heart.

God will; give you the desires of your heart.

So God will put His there or give you yours. The reason I believe that; is we sometimes ask for things that will ultimately get us in trouble and He will allow them in our lives just to teach us a lesson. Other things we ask for are not necessary against His will but not really a witness to the world of our Christianity again He allows them to teach us. I am not telling you not to have something you want just because you want it or that you can't justify it as a Christian witness. I don't believe in the pauper mentality that we must live as simply and cheaply as possible to please God. That is not scriptural. I don't believe God won't allow us any enjoyment from the pleasure of this earth or the things in it. I do believe however it should never be a cause of sin in our lives. God said "The LOVE of money is the root of evil" not money or things of value in themselves. There is nothing wrong with a hobbie. I use a very simple process now for deciding anything anymore. It must meet at least one of these three.
    1. Does it honor and lift up God.
    2. Does it honor or lift up someone else.
    3. Does it honor or lift up me as a Christian.

Again, nowhere in the Bible does it say you can't have stuff just that stuff don't have you. I am in the same boat, I struggle justifying my car. I have a ten second turbo regal. How do you honor God with that on the street? It is strictly a "look at me car". I mean every time I play in the boost I am breaking some traffic law. I let our youth pastor drive it once when we were going to lunch and I asked him how he was going to explain going 75 in a 35. He looks down and says "no way I can't be going that fast yet". I just laughed.

    God Bless

I think you got me all wrong..........I do not use drugs nor have I been to Jail,
I'm where I am now, because of hard work and determination.
Don't feel sorry for me, take that effort and make yourself prosper.
A person just has to be the best person they can be, It's pretty easy to distinguish right from wrong.
My comment about going to Hell, was a kind of sarcasm. I have my own beliefs, and they work just fine for me.
have a nice weekend Y'all............................. :TU:

I believe when he said "Right where you are now" he was talking about being a non-believer. Someone who is lost without Christ.

Believe what you want to believe but just know, there's a bunch of us on here right now who are praying for your soul. You don't have to like it or care but we do. That's what we're called to do.
God bless and you have a good weekend as well.
