Im seeking a little info on power steering systems. I installed a serpentine belt system to include a late model pump/reservoir combo unit that requires the pulley to be pressed on. The components used are those common to the 5.7 Vortect circa late 1990s. I expected the pump to growl and hum as it began priming the system but got nada. I drove around and let the car idle for some time and nada. Full left right lock to lock turns, nada. I definitely did not have this problem when I rebuilt the older original ps pump. Did I miss something on the newer unit? The lines fitted right up, is there a check valve in late model pumps I may have missed that could be stuck? I ask because I don't want to deal with the pulley remover and yank the pump off until I have a plan of attack.

    Thanks.

I guess I should update my sig with the 1st 1970 riviera with a serpentine system. :)

So, no power steering? Is the rotation on the pump correct? Who's serpentine setup are you using? So many questions lol.

    Correct, no power steering.

Rotation is clockwise while looking at the pulley from front.

No idea, but I bought from member on here years ago. Just like all things when retrofitting on a Riviera they require additional mods, but I did not change the belt routing. I had to lower the brackets down and move a pulley for proper belt length and fitment.

Im going to try to bleed the system again. Just hoping the pump wasn't bad from the beginning.

Pulled the pump, did a bench test comparison between it and the original. The newer one is toast.
