While sorting through a bunch of old drag car photos, I came across this picture of the Judd's Speed Shop Pro Stock Buick. The shot was taken in August 1972. I don't have any information about the car. Perhaps one of the members can share some information about it. Thanks.

Thats a neat picture. I'll see what I can up. I know a super guy in NJ that researches old stock/superstock cars.

Might take a day or two unless someone else knows about it.

    Buick Record Holder

The car was owned and campaigned as a Pro Stock Stage 2 in the NHRA New England divisional level by the Judd Brothers who owned a speed shop in New Hampshire. It held the 1971 record with a 10.21 @ 130.13 mph.
The engine was a 430 (limit for Pro Stock was 430) Stage 2 iron head motor with a K-B adapter to mount a Mopar tunnel ram and 2-4bbl carbs. It had a roller cam designed for a 426 Max Wedge that was extensively modified to fit the Buick. It also used a Hemi 4-speed to handle the torque. Dyno HP was 741 at 6,450 rpm! Way too darn many Mopar parts!
This car is one of the examples I used when I petitioned IHRA to approve the 1970 Stage 2 package for Top Stock, a class meant to return today's Stock class back to the early days of Pro Stock. The package they approved includes the stock 1970 shortblock, Stage 2 unported heads, unported B4B (no spacer), .548 lift hydraulic cam, the stock 850 Holley (#4781) and the original Stage 2 hood scoop (which I fortunately have). They have now approved the TA Street Eliminator Stage 2 heads (stock) and a fiberglass Stage 2 hood scoop.
Cool pic, can I get a copy. Thanks.

    Tom,

That's awesome information. Thank you. Having raced a Super Stock big block wedge MoPar in the late '60s, I could stand back and see the extensive similarities between the two brands. I can't guarantee the quality of a photo because the original is a 35mm Ektachrome slide, but if you send me your mailing address I'll have a copy made for you.

Now, regarding the IHRA top stock, did you say the combination in your posting has been accepted or is still under their consideration? This could be a class for the oldie guys to refulfill their old drag car fantasies.

Thanks, Mark. I'd be glad to pay for the copy.
My address is; 7100 Lone Oak Road

The combination was approved early in 2001. It's a pro tree/heads up class that uses weight factors to keep it exciting. I finished 8th overall in country last year in the Class. Best run was 10.09@128.15 mph on 9"tires(1.31 60'). Be glad to help anyone that wants to join the fun, 9 races scheduled this year with your best 6 races counting towards World Championship. The Class is run Saturday nights under the lights with the Pro Classes (Top Fuel/Pro Mod) with an average of 20-35,000 people in the stands. It's a thrill!
    Thanks again,
    Tom
