    Hi Clint,
The color is called "Sapphire Blue" and is an original 67 color. It was painted in an enamel from PPG back in 1985!
I don' t think it was Centauri and may have been a version of polyurethane. Somewhere I have some of the paint in the can from the body shop.
The dupont # is 867-98142 and Ditzler # is 13349. With these #'s I am pretty sure you could have it mixed (assuming you like it) in poly or 2 step like Deltron.
Honestly, I am surprised how well it has held up. My 70 GS is painted in Centauri in a similar blue (Gulfstream Blue) and it needs to be polished every so often as it dulls. Not the case with the 67. Just wash it and it looks great.
If I can anwer any other questions, just ask.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Thanks Mark, the car looks really straight & clean.

I'm really fond of that coloring scheme, light blues, greens, silvers. It'll help hide some of the nasty bodywork I require. Did you spray that yourself or was it done at a shop?

Ever heard of that color in a base/clear system?

    Clint,
I had it done in a shop by one of the guys in our NE club at the time. He had a shop on Long Island and did a great job on the car. There was rust at the fender bottoms and rear qtr bottoms. The wheel wells are original. Just some small patches in the trunk.
I can do motors trannys etc. and can take the whole car apart but metal and paint work I leave to the pros.
As to the paint, I have been told that any color can be made into base/clear coat. I got a pint of "Wedgewood Blue" for my 64 Skylark and was told it was available in that. That is why I gave you the paint codes. With them, you can have the color mixed.
Here as some pics of the 67 the day I got it in 1981.......what a difference.:eek2:

Another angle show some of the work needed.
A lot of our cars start out this way. Most of the time we see the finished work on someones car and not how it began.

Wow, thanks for the update. I'm in the same boat, need pros for the bodywork. I'm patching the quarters as well as the doors. Complete replacement on the trunk.

I also killed off my vinyl roof wasn't sure if the dofference in look would be bad, seeing hte difference o yours put it in perspective!

    My '65 GS Convertible

Here is my GS convertible... It has GS Club headers and new cam stock cut fresh by Comp Cams. 15" wheels, Vacuum trunk release, 3 speed manual (1 of 123) and correct Midnight Blue Paint. This car has been a blast to take to shows for the last three years... Seems nobody has ever seen one of these before. Makes great conversation!

I used the GS as my daily driver for a while before aquiring the GN. About 8 years ago, after a rod bearing went, I decided that I would go through the entire car again. The driveline was removed, the body was separated from the frame and there it sits. :Do No:

Many know the drill; new house, two children are born, yada yada. I really need to get back to it. I miss driving it. :ball:

    Here's more.

There's been some lively discussion around here as of late about me turning wrenches on the ol' GS again. Heck, my son is now 6-years old (actually closer to 7) which means he can lend a helping hand now. :pp

As for the motor, well it just developed a rod knock. When I tore it down I had one spun rod bearing and damaged crank journal. Don't know why but that'll need to be rectified. Cylinder walls should clean up fine with a hone. It's the numbers-matching original block, bored .030. (Those stinkin' pistons were a bear to find back in 1987. Can't imagine locating any now.)

BTW, George, this car, like me, is originally from NJ (hence, the body rot :af: ). That is where I restored it the first time. I brought it with me to Tennessee when I moved here in 1991.

    Here's my 1966 Skylark.

I was 21 when when my parents brought it home from the dealer.

Inherited it in 1996. Could have bought a new Regal GS for what I've spent restoring it.

But, I still think it's sporty and fast and fun to drive around on nice weekends and take to car shows.

    You're welcome Lee.

It's been a while since I added any new content but I have some pictorials from my recent visit to the States that I'm working on and of course I have a huge backlog of submitted cars that I will eventually get around to. I'm only one guy working on it so it's slow going sometimes. I'll be sure to post any substantial new content as it appears.

    65 GS

    :ball: :ball: :ball:
Here is the 65 GS I owned before my son was born. I bought it in Paradise, IN for $1200 dollars!! It was a Flint built car with a Rochester Q-jet and a close ratio T-10 4spd. The car was basically stock with a street/strip clutch&pressure plate. I added a mallory coil and electronic ignition and a comp140 fuel pump and filter with 1/2" fuel line from the tank to carb. This baby would really take off the line but it was hard to keep the stock tires from going up in smoke. I was forced to sell when the engine knocked from too many drag races and we needed a family car for the new addition. Boy do I miss that car! I can't find my good pictures but this was taken shortly after I bought it.

harry, i love how you did the top on that car. i've seen painted tops with the trim before, but did they do gloss from the facxtory?

    David,

The car came with a black vinyl top.

Tried fitting two new tops on it in 1999, but was unhappy with the fit, even with pro's doing the fitting.

Then, I discovered that the car could have been ordered from the factory with a painted two-tone top.

So, off came the vinyl, followed by de-glueing and sanding.

The car was a repainted with basecoat/clearcoat using a 1985 Subaru yellow (computer match) and gloss black. The yellow is much glossier than the original, but I think that, well, shiney black is shiney black.

As a footnote, I asked the BCA Head Judge about the clearcoat and gloss, and he said "no problem" as long as the color was correct, which it appears to be.

    Harry,

My 67 had the identical 2-tone... err, well I assume so... I'm rather color blind. The top was a more flat black, almost the same sheen as the dash and pillars. The black lines really show off those sail panels, I am debating wether or not to keep the 2 tone or go all solid. Heh, seeing it really helps!
