Hey guys i need tp relocate the PS at least 2inches to the left ( towards the pulley) to clear more space on my driver side headers/ turbo.manifolds. Any suggestions?
What about the early style sbb pulleys that have the P/S mounted closer to the top, like from the sbb 300/340 engines? I do believe they're closer to the left as well IIRC. GL Derek
The 71+ 350 setup would probably work Or a GM type 2 with custom Bracket and remote reservoir I'd just go manual steer if it were me
I see do i just need the 71 + brackets? Or pump as well? Manual steering was in my mind as well.. But i need a man. Steering box then
S10 truck manual steer is a direct bolt on with your current pitman 64/77? Box from Rock auto is around $145 but will need the manual pitman arm There were two different pumps used the Saginaw and the one with the neck on it, those are typically found in the low mount setup. One up side to running the power steering is you can go to a hydro boost setup, or just use manual brakes, but vacuum brakes and boosted engines don't work well together, you can put a check valve in line and it helps but they still act goofy. Also you will need the check valve inline to vac modulator for the tans so it will shift when under boost
I have some of the tighter fitting power steering setups too if you want to go that route. Im guessing that is what mark had on his car when he mocked it up. I like the manual steering setup on mine but it turns easy with the skinny tires... Having the larger tires you may want the power steering... Great info from Ethan as usual..
Something else concerns me, can the center section of the turbo be reclocked? , because the drain has to be at an angle that will allow gravity to do its thing. Otherwise you gonna have turbo issues
That's a big car setup, iirc it and the steering box try to occupy the same space when used in an Abody
Yes use the later 71-80 and 231 v6 stuff will work. But 80-87 231 v6 stuff is mostly air pump Brackets so you would need to see if it clears
Something else you might want to consider is EPS (electric power steering). The power unit is grafted into the steering column. We have been using these on our engine conversions for a couple years now and they are quite good. Jim
I like it its just not a budget friendly option... Its more about a quickfix and clear the turbos than a "update".
