I would like to know if there is an easy way to determine whether several steering boxes I have are std. or a possibility of being a fast ratio design.I have 10 or more and cannot be certain of which cars they all came off of.So,I need to know whether there are some numbers on the top of the steering box that can tell me what I am looking for or is there a different way.I have tried to turn the rag joint and count the revolutions but that doesn't seem to be of any help.At this point, they are all removed from cars and it would be a huge undertaking to bolt them to a frame and use a steering column to count the lock to lock turns. And YES,there are a few Big block units,so this is why I am trying to determine it.I realize that they were probably more common on 455 cars but you never know about how things were done back then. All of these were removed from 70-72 cars with the exception of the 68 GS 400 one from my old car.
    Thanks,Pat

You should be able to just count the revolutions of the shaft by moving the pitman arm.

I do know if there is a "Z" cast into the box which would face the frame installed, you have a quick ration steering box that is very sought after. I know, I just installed on in my car.
