I recently acquired a Poston Thermoquad. If my memory is correct, these were modified 9800 series carbs. Does anyone have any more information on these carbs and what mods were done to them by Poston? Are these carbs worthwhile on a street/strip 455 and how do they compare to genuine 1000 TQ CS?
The latest Poston Catalog I have is a Spring 2000. All I see are the 9000 series Carter AFB carburetors. I don't remember Poston selling TQ's, but I do remember Kenne-Bell doing so. Are you sure it is from Poston? I looked through my GSCA GA Extra, and they have a few articles on mods to the TQ (one by V8 member Gary Bohannon). I can probably post them up if you think it will help, or just scan them and e-mail them to you., or, Gary will see this and post.
I remember those Poston thermoquads, and they were the 9800's like you stated. If it's a track car, the old 1000 Comp Series is tough to beat for a spread bore carb. Parts and support isn't too good, unlike a Quadrajet, which would be my choice.
I remember them being an 850 (I don't know if that means a 9800) modified to flow 1000 cfm, and I think it was done by boring out the reducer in the primary bores of the float bowl.
