Possible Allergy Remedy

Sometime in my teenage years I developed allergies. I took the normal over the counter medications and just plain suffered most of my adult life. About 15 years ago I went to an allergist and proceeded to get shots for the next ten years with virtually no positive results.

Over the last few years some other health problems crept up. I'm not much on medication so about 6 months ago I looked around the internet and found a few supplements that I thought would help some of my ailments. Around the same time a woman appeared on a television show (not a commercial) in remarkable health for her age and she claimed to be taking the same key supplement I had read about. She sort of backed up some of the things I had read about Turmeric.

A daily regiment of 500 mg of Turmeric in a pill form (available nearly everywhere over the counter), one fish oil pill, and one daily vitiamin was started.

Several of my health problems went away and I kept taking them.

Now that spring has sprung it's prime allergy season. Guess what, I can mow the lawn without sneezing. My nose is not clogged. My eyes and throat aren't itchy like they normally are this time of year. I cleaned out the garage the other day (read dusty) on a windy day and nothing. Not a single kleenex went into service where as in the past I'd be reaching for them by the handfuls.

My wife says, "You're cured!" That leaves me feeling plenty blessed and at the same time very disappointed that I didn't know such a simple thing could literally change my life.

I realize we're all wired differently, but if this can help just one other allergy victim out there, that's the reason for my post!

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Thanks Brian. I suffer from sinus allergies as well. I do take a fish oil pill every morning. Now, I'm going to try the Turmeric.

Find a local bee keeper and get some local raw honey. I tried a teaspoon every day and my problems have ceased.

Makes sense Dave. My Mom used to make me hot tea with whiskey and honey for a cold remedy. Made me a sweet alcoholic! :) We do have some farm fresh honey. I'll give it a try as well. Damn sinus have been kickin' my butt.

What kind of fish oil do you use and what vitamin? I took shots until I was about 15. Dr. said I didn't need them but I have suffered ever since.

Every winter i suffer in Phoenix and cant find the right combo to help with my asthma and runny nose and itching eyes. I had noticed people selling pure honey on the side of the road and didnt know what the deal was with the honey, now i know.
90 percent of people i speak with in Phoenix seem to have alergies so its a big deal here. i spoke with someone today that suggested Pollen tablets along with the honey. So i am trying the honey and pollen to see if that works. i never thought of posting an allergy issue on the buick forum, so thanks. Gord

The local Honey works for me but it does not seem to work for my wife. I think it works for some people but not all.

I think I am going to try the Turmeric for my sciatic back pain. I see it has possible anti-inflammatory effects.

As an aside, Tumeric also has a compound called Courcumin(sp?) that's known for fighting cancer cells!

I take turmeric as well, but you want to be careful with any other drug interactions. My son is on blood thinners temporarily due to another issue and the hematologist advised him to stop taking both turmeric and fish oil as they tend to thin blood as well. I continue to take turmeric and agree in its positive attributes but you do need to check how it may interact with other drugs you might be on.

I have allergies symptoms every Spring and Fall so I'm gonna try the turmeric to see if it helps - I'll post the results a month down the road !
Pollen, dust, cats, horses, and gasoline can set it off - sneezing, wheezing, blocked sinuses, watery itchy eyes, and a runny nose, might be well worth a try. :)

I want to give an update. I used turmeric 500 mg a couple times a day since this was posted and I have noticed a difference. My back seems to be better. Allergies are in check. I did not have big bags under my eyes but I have noticed they are smaller. I seem to have more energy. I don't seem to have any side effects.

Turmeric is a bright, yellowish-green spice that comes from a root. It is used in traditional Indian and Asian dishes and has a few powerful health benefits that you don’t want to miss out on. Besides the healing properties, it actually tastes really good, too, and people use it for cooking to entice the senses and make food more palatable.

It is always good to hear a positive story like this. Cucumin is the active ingredient in tumeric. Generally, I wish we were more educated on natural heathy food instead of running to the doctor for medication. There is a certain famous scientist that has argued extensively against natural foods for ailments and disease remedies while supporting medication, but I still respect him nonetheless. For me, capsaicin helps significantly in preventing or stopping migraines as well as allergy related symptoms, cold symptoms, and sometimes flu symptoms. I eat peppers also full of vitamin C as well as potassium and nature's anti-inflammatory capsaicin. Here is one article to read:

There is some much good information readily available we should all continue to seek to learn more about the health benefits of natural foods.
