Are there any rear ends with posi and decent gears that easily fit into a '70 Lesabre or Wildcat?

Ok, if those damn hackers hadn't f*cked the stickies, this would be easily answerable...however I'm doing this from memory, so it may be a little screwed.

A 70 LeSabre shares it's rear end with the 70 Skylark...the gm 10 bolt. A LeSabre 455, Wildcat, Electra, and Riv have the 9-3/4 rear end.

Now, from what I recall, a 70-72 12 bolt rear from an a-body should bolt up to a LeSabre without much difficulty, however I'm not positive, and you should get another opinion cos my info may be screwy. I plan to do this swap as soon as I can find a 12 bolt from a 70-72 a-body. :)

There are a few board members on here who know quite a bit about this (or at least more than I do). One that comes to mind is russ. I believe that was his s/n.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks

Thank you very much for the help. I can probably round up a 12 bolt.

I seriously doubt you can bolt on a rear from an A Body.

In 71, the 8.5" rear was a standard thing with the 350 motor. The GUTS would swap out I believe, but you need a housing from a B-Body.

    70, that's a different story.

Adam's right for '71 and later - while the innards would swap out, the B-body housing and mounting points are too wide to go under an A-body.

To confirm axle swaps on a '70, I'd get ahold of "OpH" on this board and ask him. If we're lucky, he'll chime in here anyway...

I remember asking around over a year ago about this. One board member (russ was his name) told me basically what I had written up there. It was in one of those stickies that dissapeared when the site got hacked. If anyone around Chicago feels like taking their a-body out, we could meet up somewhere and measure up the rear ends...or I could just measure mine and somebody else could do the same and we could compare notes. That was just my cheap attempt to see some nice Buicks  . Anyhow, I'll measure mine up sometime in the next few days.

Can you measure drum to drum? Also, the distance from mounting points to the drums, etc?

    Andy,
Do you think you could draw up a schematic with dimensions of mounting points, etc? Mine is 53 inches from outside the drum to outside the drum...I'll have to remeasure from the insides, but I'm assuming it'll be 55. If you could give me the dimensions/locations of the mounting points, then I'll be all good. Also, where are you located?

Ok, just basically fill in the dimensions represented by "X" Measure to the closest point of the mounts (represented in my crappy picture by the little rectangles sticking out)...I'll do the same, and that way I should be able to tell if it'll fit or not.
