How do you exactly use this thing? Is it like a desktop practice tool or can you use it in a car? Sorry for the stupid question.

It is portable. You can use it anywhere. It comes with thumb buttons to release like a transbrake switch, or you can get a foot pedal for a switch if you foot brake your car. You can actually connect it to a full size tree and sit in your car and practice as if you were at the starting line.
