ive made up my mind to port fuel inject my 455, any thoughts or suggestions? thanks trevor blake:Smarty:
I sent my manifold to Force Fuel Injection (www.force-efi.com) and let them handle my whole conversion. I am VERY happy with how it turned out. I believe that TA can provide their manifold with the FI already installed. I use the SpeedPro controller (now called FAST), and LOVE it. I can't even imagine trying to tune an FI system without the wide-band oxygen sensor! I don't think that TA sells the FAST controller (I think they use the Haltech), you might have to buy that seperately. Don't think it's cheap, though, total cost of the conversion was like $5k. That will be true pretty much anywhere you go (by the time you include items that aren't included in the conversion, like shipping, fuel lines, intake manifold gasket, and other small things that add up). Just my $0.02. -Bob Cunningham bobc@gnttype.org
IM GOING TO DO MY OWN SINGLE PLANE, NEED TO KNOW WHAT INJECTORS WERE USED, WHAT FUEL PUMP AND WHAT CAM, IS IT A MAP SYSTEM OR MASS AIR FLOW. TIA TREVOR
Well if you're going to do it yourself, you're a braver soul than I. One nice thing about having someone experienced do it for you is they can put the injectors at the ideal location for hitting the intake valve. Anyhow, injectors have to be matched to your HP level. I use 36# injectors, but what injectors you use will depend on your engine. Fuel pumps are an open point in my book still. Currently I have two Holley pumps (used for the ProJection) in parellel, with the second one coming on under heavy throttle. A much better arrangement would be the in-tank pumps like the GN's use (or even the dual pump setup, mmmm......). If you don't mind excessive noise there are tons of options, but since my car is 99% street driven then fuel pump selection becomes difficult. I was using the TA C118 cam, but I just had a custom cam ground (not installed yet), we'll see how it works. There are probably better cams to be used, again it depends on your engine. The FAST system used MAP only, no MAF sensor is needed (which makes it ideal for retrofits to the 455's). -Bob Cunningham bobc@gnttype.org
This link may help with some of your questions, although I could stand to update the site (again!). ou:
