POR 15 or Krylon header paint?

    tubecatgs Finally a 4 speed......

I know, ceramic coating is the best for my TA raw headers.... however, for my daily driver I have on the shelf already POR 15 high heat paint (says good to 1200°) and Krylon High Heat With Ceramic (says good for 1300° to 2000°).

I let the headers bake in the sun for 6 hours and then put 2 coats of VHT High heat primer (says good to 2000°). Has anyone used either paint above on headers with success? Thanks

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I'd go with the Krylon if they are already primed. I think the POR-15 is made to apply to bare metal.

I used the por15 on blasted manifolds and the stuff held up perfect looks just like I'd did when I painted them

I used the Krylon high heat ceramic and it has held up well. Turns kind of charcoal color after heat cycles.

I have had the best luck, with adhesion and color, by hanging the headers and heating them before painting. It seems to bake paint layers on. You have to keep painting until they are totally covered, unlike doing light coats with a bit of drying time, when normally spraying paint. I use a small propane torch keeping it just close enough to get even heat in the metal. Then I spray layers on, nonstop, until I get full coverage.
