Started out just removing the flash and casting marks and got carried away. I have no idea if this will actually benefit the performance of the engine in any way. Used a 60 and then a 115 grit flapper on the disk grinder and finished of with med and fine 3M scotch brite disk. Even if it dont help it made me feel as if I was doing something productive towards getting it back together.

Too bad you’ve got to hide all that pretty inside the engine. On the plus side, I’d think the smoother surfaces would sling oil more readily onto places that can use it.

You know that's not the part that's supposed to get polished right?:D:D

Hope all that polishing doesnt end up costing you $100 to bring the weight back up with having to add a slug of mallory.:(

Considered that. Really wanted to knife the edges of the weights but thought better of just lopping off chunks of steel for just that reason. My shop guy that will be doing the balance does not think there will be a problem.

Have had several people tell me the same thing. also several of my friends said that they sometimes polish theirs too.

looks really nice and no more than you removed it shouldn't affect balance much either. As long as the slingers still catch oil to throw it up on the bottom of the pistons for cooling it should be fine!

Its a track only build. Dont expect it to get really hot. Seldom reaches 180 by the time it gets back to the pit after a pass

Those are the counter weights, not slingers.

Polished is better than "ground," "cut," or "shaved".
