Converter is compatible with the 455. Just different torque so converter will have more stall. So a 2800 converter on a 350 will probably give 3800 on a 455. jim could restall it. But it would probably be more then an adjustment to lower it that much.
Ok head is off, checked the "bad" cylinder and the walls look shiny and smooth. Im not sure how they are supposed to look but I dont see any obvious scratches or damage. still possible that the rings went bad that fast and allowing the leak down into the crankcase? I assume if a ring broke that I would see wall damage. this is still fairly new to me so forgive my lack of knowledge. Anything I can do myself to check the head? i visually inspected it but again couldnt find any obvious damage around that combustion chamber. (intake valves are heavily deposited with buildup though) i have a spring compressor, should I remove the valves and look deeper? what else can I look for to get on the right track to figuring this out? thanks Matt
I spoke to my friend here in the shop mentioning the pic of valve+ the apparent damage that was visible at the guide. Possible that liner shifted. Overheating would cause the liner to seize and run dry wasting the fit. Most people suspect the thin area between. Valves to crack and they do, but not all. I. Have had 68 heads crack under the springs so I suggest removing the springs over the center valves and ask if that area receive inspection.
