I am about to order some wheels for my 65 4 door Buick special. From all the reading I've done I am pretty sure a 20x10 will fit the rear with 5.5 back spacing and no mods. I'm looking at some 20x9.5 5.25 back spacing for the rear and 18x8.5 front with 4.5 back spacing. The rear is stock with worn springs, the front will be lowered 2".

Any recomendationsfor tire sizes? I would like to run a 40's series on the back if it will fit.

For tires I'm looking at 245/40-18 for the front and 265/35-20 for the rear.

I think you'll be OK on the back of you still have the stock rear end. I bet you rub in the front on turns. I have 17x8s square. I have plenty of room out back for another inch or 1.5". I'm lowered 2" out back and 1"in front. With 245s up front I rub ever so slightly on turns with any suspension compression. Fwiw, I didn't have any issues rubbing until my front brake upgrade which moved my wheels out a little.

Thanks for the reply. I did some measuring on Saturday and felt pretty confident so went ahead and placed the order. I am a little concerned about the fronts rubbing but we shall see.

Well the wheels and tires came in today. Haven't gotten the front ones on yet as I'm waiting on my lower control arms to come in. The backs however do rub. I'm either going to have to machine the back of the hub or take an air hammer to the inner fender at the top of the wheel arch

Wheels are 20x9.5 5.25 back spacing on the rear and 18x8.5 4.5 front. Rear tires are 265/35-20 fronts are 245/40-20.

Mocked up a 225/40/18 on a 18x8 with 4.5 bs over the weekend on my 64 wagon. VERY old / weak front springs...probably 3" of drop, tires only rub at full lock with suspension compression.

Main culprit is the inner fenderwell bolt, I've got buttonhead allen bolts on order to replace them, probably only adds 3/16" clearance but atleast a smooth surface rather than a squared off edge of the factory bolt.
