Placement of exhaust tips on 68

  1. I'm thinking about removing the chrome exhaust tips on my 68 GS, that extend straight out from the bottom of the bumper about 4 inches, and replacing them with turn-downs instead, for a stock look. I've looked in my chassis book, but can't really tell where the best place is for the tip to end. Should it be just before the bottom of the bumper? How far? Here's a pic of what I have now. You can see the cleanest part of the chrome tip is what extends beyond the bumper.

My pipes turn down at about a 45 degree angle. They extend about 1.5 inches, below the bumper.
