Alot of you may not know, but many of you do that my 5 month old granddaughter is in need of a liver transplant. Last Friday we had an offer, but another hospital got it before Piper. Today, I went to the local gas station and when I was about to leave, the attendant came screaming out of the store looking for me.She was yelling to me that they found another donor liver and they were trying to find my daughter Sarah.Several phone calls and finally when everyone was on the same page,we are now getting the liver. The transplant team is currently prepping Piper and getting ready to life flight it to Philadelphia. Since I am the phone number to reach if they can't get ahold of Sarah who's on her way to Philly now.I must stay home and update the rest of the family. I am asking for everyone who reads this to keep little Piper in their prayers for a healthy donor as well as speedy recovery. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate the donors parents choice and what it means to my family. This is a debt we will never begin to be able to repay. We are excited to have Piper get a new lease on life, but theirs just ended. It sure is a double edged sword feeling...

I'm not much of one for praying, but I sure feel for you and wish you the best possible outcome.

Well at 1 am,they deemed the liver good and then proceeded to getting Piper prepped for the surgery. She is doing well with the anesthesia and at 5:46 the first incision began toward her new liver transplant and hopefully a better life without so many complications begins.Even though I have never met the family of the donor,I thought about them all night while attempting to sleep. My heart goes out to them.

Well, Piper made it through the transplant well and the Dr's are confident that everything will be ok with the liver. It seems there was a small bit of complication though as they couldn't get a pulse in her hand at the end of the surgery. The Anesthesiologist talked with Sarah and they believe a small blood clot is in her arm or hand. Yhey are confident they will be able to repair it quickly..

Everyone should be a donor - and here's why! I have so much respect and emotions for the donor family. What a wonderful gift they have provided!

After a couple days, they have finally been able to get the pulse in both arms and 1 leg by using their fingers. The were worried that the liver was having difficulty but it appears to have been a blocked duct.It is something they feel they can get under control. She has been sucking on her binkie and when she drops it,she starts to cry, which is a good sign. She is continuing to get better a little at a time. She is not totally in the clear but she is progressing. This may be a little unnerving, but it shows what this little 5 1/2 month old has endured and how it seems to not have affected her ..

Thanks Guys for the prayers and thoughts. We got some good news as the Drs are now getting a warm and pulse in her leg finally. She's continually improving and that's a good sign, but she has a ways to go yet. I was like everyone else with healthy children but came to a harsh reality with Piper. I am thankful for the Dr's and Geisinger Hospital as well as Philly's Children Hospital. They surely saved this girl's life.As well as the great people who organ donated!!!
