And now for something completely different...

The title of this page is "pictures of Buick with blowers"...If you've got pictures, please post them. I'm real serious about going that-a-way, so any information about blown Buicks is what I'm after.

    Hi Guys,

I suppose I should apologize to keep things on a civil level around here.....so, please accept my if apology if I offended anyone as that was in no way my intent.

Now let's get back to the real business of what this board and these fine forums are all about........that is sharing what each and every one of us have to offer or contribute to our Buick community!!!:TU:

    Kerry.....:)

    language..

    Guys,

Easy on the four letter words, and derivitives of such.. We want to make sure that if a user's kid is reading this, we are not contirbuting to making a young guy or gal think that everyone needs to swear to make a point.

So I am going to ask that you refrain from the foul language... and I am not know to ask twice...:spank:

    OK..?

    thanks for your cooperation...

    Now, as to the topic...

I am curious to know what, if any, considerations are being given to the increased load on the dampner hub, and front main bearing, that are being employed in this appliation.. roots/ centrifical... any old way you slice it, you are seriously increasing the load on these items, and I am just curious if any consideration has been given to these parts.

Not to mention, the rest of the reciprocating assembly.

Just curious as to plans here... For a forced induction application brackets to mount the blower would not be real high on my list of worries.

Were I too approch this application, I would start by building a serious 8/9 second motor's bottom end, make the required provisons for the boost (static compression ect), I would add a steel crank to the parts list, and then locate someone who could take a good aftermarket damper, and make me a billet hub, for that unit.

Unless your planning on very low boost levels, but then I would have to begin to question the concept, were I just to consider a cost/benefit analysis... if your just doing it for the "cool factor" as many of the cars you see pictured here are, then that's a whole different deal.

    JW

Sorry if my questions are a little bit pointed, but after reading that many swear words in one topic, I tend to get a little punchy..

Funny you should bring that up!

This is another picture of one of the cars I posted earlier. Notice anything, ummm, missing? :ball:

Yep, dumped it right on the track at Bowling Green!

I would think a roots type blower would load the crank and hub more than a centrifigal blower would because the roots is a positive displacement pump and the centrifigal is not. Also I think that the roots blower pulses the air into the engine and those pulses put a load on the crank and hub.

Don't know why you guys are bickering about, but I have seen this else where on other boards and things went down hill from there.
I started this thread for information and pics....Jim has provided a service for us don't abuse it.
Roots, Centrifrical, Stg1, StgII, it dosn't matter its still a Buick.
Please folow Jims wishes and enjoy the board, it provides insite to our hobby.
    Thanks

Now on with the show....Alan I beleive you are correct! it is a V-6.
I beleive that set up is in a Dastun pickup... I have an old V-6 performance book.. and in black -n-white there is a dark colored Datsun truck (reversed open hood) with a Blwn V-6.
I know it isnt a 8 but just think of the possiblities....

The application for a blown 455 in my Regal, won't be for running 8's in the 1/4, Just a fun driver in the 11's, visual impact the whine, are some cool things,
My ultimate dream is a FI , Blwn, 455, Overdrive trans, in my Regal, Black with flames, and be able to drive it on the Pwr Cruise, the Ameri-Cruise, or to Bowling Green, or any BPG event.
And not have to worry about it, SO maybe tubbing it out won't be practical, so maybe a minintubbed, G-force Ride, ....:bglasses:
But hey it's a dream for now , I got a long way to go , but it is nice to have goal.
Alan thanks for the pics they have good.
Guys keep your noses clean thanks again
I'm still interested on the info and pics on the ATI project when it gets in let us know.

    FYI,

Rod H. split the hub of his Fisher balancer at Morocco this past weekend. For those who don't know, Rod races a blown, injected Skyhawk and runs in the low 8's. He told me that for a blown application your supposed to double key the crank but that he hadn't done so. He seems to realy nice and loves to talk blowers, so if you get the chance don't be shy.

That Blown Skyhawk was soooooo cool to hear coming up to the staging lanes in B.G. this year! That thing's got to be a handful with that short of a wheel base!

Did it kill the front of the crank?

It nicked up just enough so he couldn't get another on on. I guess the aftermarket crank is just to hard to file in the pits.

if your going the roots direction blower drive service BDS lists a kit for a 455 in there catalogue runs right around 3,100 and you must supply a balancer for them to make a crank hub out of. blowers are fun but theres a whole mess of fuel system issues and ignition timing stuff you have to mess with and if the engine backfires through a roots look out. be prepared to break drivetrain stuff alot too. I just put an intercooled ati blower on a ls1 firebird it takes two fuel pumps to run the thing and was almost 8 hrs with a laptop to get it to run right not trying to scare anyone away from blowers the car is faaaaaaaaaast but just be prepared to spend ALOT of time tuning tweaking cussing and retuning to get it to run right

    Thanks for the info...
I think Hampton Blowers...( if I read their ads right) already have everything to make the switch including the hub drive pulley.
I know where your coming from on setting up a supercharged car.. I used to drive a GN...yes a laptop, lotsa gas, and some back roads testing got me near to what I wanted in performance.
But all that took it's toll on the eng.
Heck even setting up this Regal I went through and set it up to what I thought was right to find out it wasn't and something else would fail, so frustration isn't an issue:puzzled:
As for parts breakage I;m expecting it ,even now with my combo,:Brow:
Anyhow thanks for the info... this phase is still along ways off and I'll take the advise of you and others have and will give, so that I do this in steps to make things right when I do go and do the swap to a supercharger of any sorts.
    Thanks

I cannot agree with the needs lots of tuning and fuel system issues. I got off lucky and got my buddies carbs of his blower motor so I had it close, no special fuel issues, just a good pump and lines. popped right off and runs great.

when he swapped to a bigger blower and different carbs, we dropped it on, screwed the carbs down and it popped right off. just needed a little tweaking form our friend who has owned a few blower cars.

Greetings all, I've been lurking for a while. Thought I'd chime in on the blowers. I've been running different blown motors in my boat for a couple of years now. Alas, it's a dreaded BBC:( But that's whats popular in the marine world. Anyhow, the key to a reliable motor is set up. Yes, you need the associated supply systems to be up to snuff, ignition, fuel delivery etc. My current motor makes 878 horsepower and is turn key. It idles without a hiccup. Each time the motor was set up on a dyno and dialed in by someone familiar with blower motors. Well worth the $500:pp

Blownsmobile, I like the "Got Boost" as well! We even had some window stickers made up for our tow vehicles. OK, sorry about the BBC stuff, Buicks from now on!! I'm working on my GS this winter, it will run one day regardless of what my friends say

I saw that flamed GS at the nationals in '89, he made an easy pass on street tires through the mufflers and still ran 11's. That Skyhawk is just so cool.

    David,

Are you still waiting for your blower from ATI? Or do you have have it now and are in the process of installing it? I'm courious as to how it's going.

about the centrifigal suoercharges, someone might have posted this alreaty, but TA performance is/was working on one, and i put the link below. One i thought would be neat, have somebody bould you a dual plenium sheet metal intake, kinda like a cross ram, and fuel inject it, with twin turbos and twin intercoolers....would be fun. This from a guy (me) who currently has a chevy 350 in his 87 regal, unfortinetly building a BB buick is way expensive, especally when one works for uncle sam. Oh well maybe one day.
