I pulled the interior this wknd, found both build sheets, removed original carpet and found a lone 1972 penny, face down. Anyone seen this elsewhere? Built in Wilmington, DE plant.

That is correct for the Wilminton De plant only. Face down is the way its supposed to be. If it were a Flint car, the penny would be face up instead. Framingham cars didnt get the penny installed at all. Evidentially they never seemed to get the memo back then.

The BPG concours judges do look for that in the show. Missing pennies are a points deduction.

A person with a really sharp eye would have detected that this penny is a clone.

My car is also Wilmington built and the darn penny was face up:af: It was an automatic point deduction at the show:mad: Those line workers just did not care :puzzled:

Love those Wilmington built cars, I found two completely intact build sheets in mine also and I have yet to remove the carpet...:TU:

Jim, I must respectfully disagree with you. I dont believe anyone is reproducing the correct 72 pennies at this time. I know they're making the 1970 ones for the GSX cars. It certainly looks like an original to me.

What's the melt value of that penny? All pennies before 1982 are 90%+ copper.

So what about a "leaner" one that is leaning up against the side next to the carpet?? Found a 63 ... though I do believe all this (points..point deductions..etc is interesting...(but BS) it makes a cool idea on Buick Legends and Lore... :Brow:

While the Secret Service would officially frown at that idea (have you ever seen an agent smile?), I'm quite certain that the mint would be more than happy to let you make as many pennies as you want. Last I heard, they ain't worth what it takes to make them.

You are lucky to find something of value.:TU:

When I worked on the assembly line at the B-O-P Framingham plant in 1972, all sorts of stuff got thrown into cars as they were built: soda cans, food, wrappers, extra bolts, etc.....you would be surprised at how careless the line folks were, especially on Mondays and Fridays......:boring:

I've got a pair of vice grips I found clamped in the deep recesses of the trunk in the '72 Olds Cutlass my folks bought new.

Found them while laying in the trunk installing speakers after I had kind of taken the car over as a teenager.

I figure they came from the Fisher body plant.
