78 years ago today. Tragic day for our armed forces primarily the Pacific Fleet based out of Pearl. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

I'm a World War II history buff and it still amasses me the secrets, stories and technological advancements that still today come to light from such a tragic time in America's history.Let this nation never forget what happened on this day in 1941.
Trust me, I know what today is all about and I try to educate as many people as possible that come into my stores about today in history. The people of that era were truly the greatest generation ever. Larry

I've been binge watching stories about this most of the day. Some of the heroism displayed after the attack astounds me.

We are in DC for the weekend to visit our daughter who is obtaining her Nurse Practitioner degree from Georgetown. Had a great day yesterday roaming around the city, however the highlight was the WW2 Memorial. There was an Honor Flight Service marking the Pearl Harbor Anniversary with several WW2 vets being honored, the opening prayer was given by a 96 year old Pearl Survivor and you could have heard a pin drop. Was an honor to be able to witness this service as soon they will all be gone.

In the grand scheme of things, Pearl Harbor was more of a defeat for Japan then it was to the US. Japan concentrated it's attack on the battleships and not the repair and refueling facilities. Had Japan taken out the service facilities, Pearl Harbor would not have been usable as our principal Pacific Naval facility. The second problem for the Japanese was that out of necessity, the aircraft carrier became our principal offensive weapon in the Pacific. This is a lesson that in all likelihood would have come very slowly to the tradition-bound naval brass. Incidentally, except for the Utah and Arizona, all of the sunken Battleships were raised and returned to service.

The USS Enterprise was the only battle ship NOT docked at Pearl harbor when the Japanese attacked, they didn't count on that. The Enterprise did a lot of tactical maneuvers making the Japanese think we had a big navy fleet out there till replacement ships were built.

That's what my dad told me and he was in the Navy during WW2 and on the Enterprise for the entire duration of the war. He told us some very interesting stories of things that happened.

The Enterprise was an aircraft carrier, not a battleship. The Japanese were surprised that there were no aircraft carriers birthed at Pearl Harbor on December 7.
