What are the correct part numbers for left and right fenders for the 70-72 Skylark/GS cars? Also for the inner fenders, left and right.

Do you know what year fenders have part numbers 1231380 and 1231386? My 70 parts list shows the two you listed above.

No, and the ones I listed above may not be the actual ones stamped into the fenders. Those were on the GM stickers on the NOS fenders I had many years ago.

Are they actually on the fenders?

My parts list shows the 1232044 & 5 numbers for 1970 while my fenders are stamped 1231380 & 86. I have no clue what year they actually are. At some point before me, the front end was repaired. My front end has a 71 shroud, 71 core support and 72 rad top plate, so who knows what year the fenders are. You can fit your fingers in the groove so they are original style fenders.

I am fairly sure the stamp on the fenders are 1231386 & 1231387. I think your stamp is a 7 not a 0.
My GSX original fenders are stamped 1231386 date 16 & 1231387 date 18.

Do you know how to read the date codes? I’ll have to double check that number. Your 7 is kind of angled where mine comes straight down. That’s why I thought it was a zero. Need to take a closer look.

There are actually 4 different style fenders for the 70-72 cars.
The 1970 style, 71 style, 72 style, and the replacements. I don't know if the part number stamped into the metal changed or not, but you can tell them all apart if you know what to look for.

The inner fenders also changed part numbers during the 70-72 years. Some of them look identical, with only the different "piercings" being the way to tell the years apart.

.................also, you can't use the parts books to ID the correct numbers. Often the parts book referenced the numbers on the boxes and/or stickers, which often has zero bearing on the numbers stamped/cast/ink printed on the parts. Again, these books were made to reference replacement parts, not to ID original pieces. You cannot expect them to do a job they were not designed to do.

It looks like they had a problem with the 7 stamp.

Here are a pair of originals on a 70 Skylark...

Oddly enough, they have a bit of the same issue as the NOS fenders I have, but not as bad.

    Dear All,
I am new here and it is truly a pleasure being part of the forum. I am currently restoring a 1970 base GS455, 4 speed car all numbers matching drivetrain. It is an early 1970 and looks to have been assembled the 2nd week of November 1969. (I have owned this car for approximately 30 years now, always garaged kept and running, in very good condition) I believe this had some front end damage on the drivers side before I purchased it. I believe this as after the car had been stripped I saw a dent in the A frame pillar that was filled where it looks like the fender hit and dented the roof pillar. The number on the driver side fender currently is 1231331 code 123 while the fender number on the passenger side is 1231386 code 127. I have a fender in excellent condition numbered 1231387 code 90 that I was considering installing in replace of the fender number 1231331 on the drivers side. I also have a fender number 1231380 where the 0 looks to be truncated on the left side almost appearing as a 7 with a code of 42. (or it is a badly stamped 7) I would appreciate anyone's thoughts as to whether I should make the switch and with which fender? I am currently leaning towards the one clearly marked 87 based on what I am reading here. Both fenders are solid. I am not sure about the inner fender number and am fortunate to potentially have an original fender that may be the right number for the car. Please advise or assist if possible. I have read through the forums and see there could be different numbers for each model year '70-'72. Thank you and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Stay safe all and many thanks, Barry

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Huh, it looks like someone on the line might have made a "7" stamp out of a zero stamp, LOL. That's very interesting.

Looks like Adam's Skylark photo above came off the same line.

Its also interesting that the stamped numbers appear to be SO different.

Hmm...that is very interesting and you are correct, they do look like they came off the same line. Thank you for the note back. I have included a pic of the fender numbers on the passenger side of the car now. It was previously painted in the GSX paint scheme when I purchased it (hence the yellow paint but I know it is not a real GSX and knew so when I bought it some 30 years ago). Therefore, I am finally getting around to restore it back to the original Harvest Gold with black vinyl top. Thanks again and any other thoughts welcome. Sincerely, Barry
