Hello everyone my name is Andy from Cleveland
Long story short I just acquired a 78 Electra 225
And now I’m all scatterbrained as to what to do next . She’s pretty solid with 73000 miles on the odometer back end sits a little low and there are a few rust spots on the paint and bumpers but mostly she’s all intact. All I’ve accomplished in the few days I’ve had her is an oil change. Any ideas on where to start .thanks in advance for anything you guys can tell me

Drive the heck out of it of course! :D

But I'd start with a tune up. Then pull the wheels off and check out the brakes, repair if needed. Drive it a bit and look for problems.

Put a 455 in it! JW can build you a really nice one with 6 or 700 horsepower.

Looks like you got the Buick 350 and not a 307 Olds in it .That's a big plus . Luxus gave you some good advice . Pull the wheels and check ALL the brake components . Especially the brake lines them selves . Then check the front end for any loose parts .

If it runs OK now leave the tune up stuff till you drive it a bit and sort things out . Have fun .

Thanks for the replies. May sound like a dumb question but is the tune up gonna be extra difficult? Changing the oil and filters was a breeze..

Tune up is not too difficult. (And it may not need it-see how the inside of the distributor cap and tip of the rotor look. Pull the plugs and eyeball them). A few plugs are hard to reach and you may have a hard time finding a wire set that matches original lengths. You need to try not to break the current wires getting them off the plugs, too. Buy good quality AC Delco parts-not bright blue this or zillion volt yellow that. AC Delco or Wix for filters.

Thanks ! I was looking at gathering all the parts for the tune up . Guy said he did it but I’d rather be safe than sorry

Make sure to check the Trans fluid too. Give it a sniff to see if it smells like roasted nuts or burnt tar. Look for a nice reddish color.
Trans is pretty easy to service and it's cheap insurance.

    Welcome!;)

For a second I thought you were saying JW can build a Buick engine with 6 horsepower or 700 horsepower. While I highly doubt ANY Buick engine could be built with 6 horsepower, I realize this stay at home/social distancing has taken more of a toll on me than I thought.o_O

Yeah but be careful with that. Not using the right tools and he'll damage the fuel line and cause a leak. A line (Flare Nut )wrench is mandatory.
