I put a t400 in my 64 vert and I had to cut the cross member mounting tabs off and move them back because the convertibles have a boxed frame and the Skylarks are open so you can slide the cross member back and drill new holes. I am going to add t 200r4 and it mounts on the crossmember right where the t400 does.
CK Performance. My plan was to install that and the rear on Labor Day weekend but I'm starting to think I may not have them in time.
I thought about doing that but I ended up taking the easy route and buying a tubular crossmember from Bowtie Overdrives. It's a Chevelle style that arcs back behind the tailshaft with a support tab on the forward side of the tube. It came with the rubber mount and also has a provision to mount the s-hook for the parking brake cable. It's designed for a Chevelle convertible but they assured me it will work on a Skylark. We'll see.
How long ago did you order yours from Chris? I ordered mine from Lonnie about 6 weeks ago. I know what you mean about the rear end. I have a newly rebuilt 3.90 posi rear with rebuilt brakes all ready to go and sitting on the garage floor next to my car. I just had an axle seal go bad on my current rear end and it was so tempting to just throw the new rear in instead of replacing the seal and cleaning all the gear oil out of the brakes. However, I did not want to try driving my poor little stock 300 incher around with a 3.90 gear and no overdrive.
August 5th. I just spoke to Chris and he said it should go out NLT Monday. I'll cross my fingers and hope it's here by the 3rd. I hear ya. I have a 2.78 in mine now and it turns 2300 at 60MPH with 26" tires. Did you have the rear built locally?
I used Alan's Gearworks. They have been doing diffs around here since I was racing in the 80's. They have a rock solid reputation. Cost me $1100 for all new everything with an Eaton Posi.
That is hilarious. Lonnie said he shipped mine last Thursday and will be here no later than this Thursday.
After an extraordinary amount of waiting patiently, I finally received a tracking number for my trans today. It has been over 2 months since I ordered it, so it better be good!:3gears:
Damn. This is a big problem today, Promise dates. Well I guess your just happy to get it at this point.
I used to have a complex formula and a computer algorithm to help me extrapolate actual delivery dates from promise dates from my machine shops back in the day. Apparently I need to tweak that formula for application to trans shop delivery dates. I will let everyone know when it goes to beta testing on actual tranny shop deliver dates.
What adds to the frustration is the fact that these shops require you to prepay before they'll build. I understand why but it does reduce the incentive to deliver when promised.
Well, yet more promise dates have come and gone. I have also been given a tracking number which the shipping company says is no good. I left Lonnie a message and an email. I will give him til' the end of today to explain.
I now have a valid shipping number from Extreme Automatics and my trans is at the shipping origin depot. So, I should finally have it for next week.ray:
