[OT] Yamaha's rallye weapon: WR 450F 2 wheel drive rally bike.

I wonder how long it took someone too realize fluid is the way too go. I have seen other 2 wheel drive bikes in mags but they had funky chain or shaft systems.

    How 2-Trac works
Unlike the drive systems we are used to on motorcycles, 2-Trac features a hydraulic drive to
the front wheel. As Lars Janson explains in his interview (see archive) the Yamaha patented
system uses a hydraulic pump located on top of the gearbox and driven by a chain in oil bath
(see red circle) which actuates hydraulic fluid via high pressure hoses to the front wheel. The
special hub in the front wheel is a "hydraulic motor" (see blue circle), which is set in motion
through the pressure of the hydraulics.
This construction allows a "smart operation": the pressure and consequently the pulling power
on the front wheel varies the more the rear wheel slips. The system can regulate itself and
applies always the best ratio of power between front and rear. You can also adjust the
system, depending on usage of the machine and apply more basic thrust in front or less.

Could you imagin a 200hp crotchrocket like that. Dam, talk about doing burn out that impress. After a solid launch and the front tire hits the ground n starts smoking about half track.

I like my American iron just like the next guy,but Yamaha makes an excellent bike.I used to ride a 1980 XS 1100 ,Talk about a screamer. There weren't too many bikes that could even touch that thing.Ate the crotch rockets on a regular basis. :Brow:Gotta love the shaft drive!

You know I only said crotchrocket so the majority of people here could associate a connection with my imagination but I know the power of the shaft and the blessed Yamaha Virago. The only "V-twin" [cause it is an offset V-twin, see * below] engine you will find in home built airplane kits [mostly due too its reliability.
If Harley made and airplane would you fly in it?] And I am in love with the older original model with its mono shock system. But I have been eyeballing an 87 1100s. I try not too flood my many urls all over but most of them all lead back too the same place http://ViragoTech.com You can find my bike under Matthew

    * As both the connecting rods on a Harley, connect too the same crank journal. Which cause some inherent problems. That Yamaha fixed in 80s with the Virago and TR1 and the offset twin. You think a Buick has torque try out a Yamaha twin. Top too bottom and everywhere in-between.
