Random, but there's a vast pool of knowledge here so it seemed logical.

Does anyone have suggestions on proven methods to keep birds away? They love hanging out on my back porch and they're crapping all over everything. Just built my kid a fort in the back yard, they're already turning it into an avian toilet as well. My old man tried fake owls and snakes at his place with very marginal (if any) success. Any suggestions?

Our local Publix grocery store has a device that makes the sound of a hawk to keep birds from nesting in the front overhang/porch. It seems to work.

12 gauge?? Your neighbors might not like that idea though...

Have you identified anything that attracts them, such as food sources?

Problem with that is this hangs around outside and like to "play" with those. And when I say "play, there's a pretty severe issue for the loser of that game...

I'd like to find something passive (a 12 gauge would be more fun though!). Wifey works nights, a loud screatching sound going off periodically during the day probably wouldn't go over well with her sleeping.

Try setting out some moth balls where they like to perch. I haven't met a critter yet that enjoys the smell of moth balls.

I was visiting our maintenance guys and they were prepping some bait stations for the birds...feeding low doses of poison so the birds just feel sick and the lead bird of the flock leads the flock to a better food source. It’s the latest in trying to outsmart the birds Not sure of effectiveness yet. We have to control to meet food safety standards.

Not sure of the practicality for your situation but I’ve seen overlong zip ties used where they roost. Spaced every foot or so. Keeps the birds off and they go elsewhere. I’ve seen this used on structure and pipes in breezeways and covered areas. They were clean so must be working.

  14. As you can see by the picture my attempt at keeping the birds away from my car was highly unsuccessful FB_IMG_1559586627581.jpg FB_IMG_1559586617955.jpg

Bob, put a colored plastic bag over the mirrors with a rubber band to keep them from seeing themselves.

Maybe offer to wash all your neighbor's cars for them.......I know whenever I clean one of mine they crap on it almost immediately afterward.....Seriously though, the owl thing doesn't work very well. We used to have some in our building for our combines and tractors, still get crap on and in everything. Worked good for target practice with our Red Rider BB guns as a kid though. There's these things, and they helped with our woodpecker issue up at our cabin: https://www.amazon.com/HOMESCAPE-CR...ective-Scare/dp/B01N6970MN?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1

  18. We have Canadian geese that fly over in squadrons using my car's as target practice. I must say they have gotten quite accurate. #$@*$@#

I’ve left my DD outside, in the driveway, without incident for over 12 years. It’s a medium gray/blue color called “Stealth Gray Metallic”. The only things that cover it are leaves, rain and snow. The ONE day I park my new Buick in the driveway (the color is called “Ebony Twilight Metallic”) and a herd of birds flies over it, changes the color and makes the windows impossible to see out of. I’m VERY interested to see what works.

Sky Rats as they’re know around here. They can really make a mess.
