    John,

Me too. From the pictures and text that is in the '66 chassis manual, all 66's should have six numbers followed by one letter then another five numbers. The first five of the six are the model.

The first one of the five starts with 4 (Buick?)

    The next two of the five are the series: 54 - LeSabre, 64 - Wildcat, 66 - Wildcat Custom,82 - Electra 225, 84 - Electra 225 Custom, 94 - Riviera.

The last two of the five are the body style: 37 - 2 dr. coupe hardtop,
    39 - 4 door hardtop, 67 - convertible, 69 - 4 door thin pillar,
    87 - Riviera cpe.

The sixth number is the last digit of the model year, 6 - 1966

The letter represents the plant in which the car was built.

The last five numbers are the serial number unique to that one car.

    I'd just go by the MW knowing that it's a '66 425.

Yup, I'll do that. I wonder if this engine was a service replacement? The quality of the stamped numbers is very poor.

Hi Ed, I forgot to mention that I do have a 425 (now 431) nailhead-powered '82 C-10. The "82" is really a composit of two trucks - one bad, the other worse. I made a good one out of the two, but to be honest, the only parts that are actually '82 Chevy are the cab, one parking light assembly, and the power brake booster and master cylinder. Everything else is either Buick, aftermarket, or '86 GMC C-1500. The 431 replaced the 6.2 Diesel that was in the '86 GMC Chassis that I used. The Diesel is a great engine and was running perfectly, but not enough ponies or torque for the uses that I put it to. I tow a 4,400 lb horse trailer with it and have used it to transport farm equipment, pull stumps, etc. The big nailhead has solved the power issue nicely. It is also much easier to work on then the Diesel - or even then a Chevy V8 would be. My only concern about putting a nailhead in a S-10 is that the adapter to the Chevy transmission will space the engine about an inch and a half forward. Do you have enough room? Marty at Eelco is coming out with a new adapter that is supposedly a little thinner then the Brendtsen's unit that I used. Check with him and then measure carefully!
    Good Luck.

I'm thinking that if the S-10 has a ladder frame, I'd shorten the driveshaft and leave the engine as far back as it would sit. I have a rebuilt 425 + 0.030 with a Poston NH300 cam in it. I built it to put into a '64 Riv body I had, but someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse for the body. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the Nail. My first inclination is to put it in a Model A highboy touring (if I could find one - even a decent two door sedan I could cut the top of off.)

Sounds nice! My 425 is also .030 over. At some point in the future I'd like to go to a roller cam.

I'm attaching a couple of PDF pages that I scanned from my '64 Chassis manual. One that compares the different Carter AFB carbs that were used by Buick that year, and another that shows the linkage set up. Hopefully this will answer some questions that have been posed.

Ed, again, thanks so much for supplying the answers to so many of my questions. The information from your 1964 Chassis Service Manual supplies the information on the dual quad carburetors for that year. I am hopeful that someone with a 1965 Chassis Service Manual might provide that information in same form as you did. The information requested is: Section 3-2 Specifications, Engine Fuel and Exhaust Carter Carburetor Calibrations and Section 3-62 4-Barrel Carter, Engine Fuel and Exhaust "Throttle Control Information-Dual 4-Barrel. Thanks to all.

If you do have a '65 manual, chances are the page numbers won't be the same. In the three I have - 63, 64, and 66 the information is there, lots of it exactly the same, but none of it under the same numbers.

I would really like to have copies from the 1965 manual of the information you supplied from the 1964 manual. My 1966 manual has no information on the dual quads at all. If your 1966 manual has anything on the dual quads I'd appreciate that too.

I had to edit my previous post. I put the wrong years in for the manuals I have. Go back and see what I actually have. I've given you all the info I have access to regarding the dual quad set up.

..This post is all over the place...first....the kickdown bracket posted in the first post will not work on a Skylark Gran Sport.... you have to cut the tab off the bracket and move it back 3 inches and re weld it... someone already mentioned that Carmon Faso in North Tonawanda NY does these ..and they only work for 65 -66 slylark GS with add on 2x4 set up..... as far as rochester 4 MC carbs in 66... they put them on MW coded 425's which came on the Full size buicks Carb # 7026240 on a Skylark GS they offered 2 (ultra high compression engines) A9 L76 one was an MU stamped block which is 10:25 to 1 compression and a MS coded block 11:00 to 1 compression with part number 1396777 pistons Skylark Gran Sport ONLY..wich this also had a rochester... carb number 7026242...there are NO internal differences in the the 425 4MC and the 401 4MC rochesters...the choke setting was different in the Skylark GS Rochester carb..hence the different part number....

Good evening - I am looking for the kickdown bracket only for my 66 Riviera MW 425 which I am converting to dual quads . Does Carmon Faso mentioned above still make these brackets ? If so , how do I contact him . Enclosed picture of the one I need according to Dick Sweeney . If anyone has one or knows wher I can get one , I would appreciate it. Thanks -
