I was curious if I could have 70 GS door panels and seat covers made in the same red that Chevelle and GTO used in 1970,so I called Legendary, and they said yes, absolutely. There is a 25% increase in price, for something custom like that, but yes,it can be done. It takes about 10 weeks. Perfect for winter. Still not sure if I will do red,but that is good info to know.
I have decided to put red interior into my silver 70. I've been researching & sourcing all of the correct red parts, with some help from 70 Chevelle and 70 GTO,which offered red. I was able to find the red windlace, kickpanels, and bucket seat headrests. I want to dye as few parts as possible. I did need to get a correct mix made,to paint the metal dash itself, and surrounding parts, like the steering column. I have a console that was previously painted by a previous owner,so I am going to do that one. I am debating on whether to dye a dash pad,or send one to Just Dashes, and have them redo it in actual red vinyl.
That's gonna look sooooo cool Brian! Years ago I went to look at a black 70 GS 455 with a red interior. Naturally, it was a total dye job but man did that car look striking. You have absolutely nothing to lose dying the pad red. It'll cost you 2 cans of paint if that. Ive dyed a few pads and you really cannot tell. Just Dashes is going to get you for close to grand to redo that pad. I'd try the paint route first.
I'm not so much concerned about the price of the pad.I just want it right. I'm that type of guy. I have dyed pads and soft parts before,so it is nothing new to me,but I just want to make it look as authentic as possible. If I do dye a pad, which one do I sacrifice? Blue, green,or saddle. I hate to use something that someone else really needs,as far as factory color goes. I have a sample mix that I will be trying in a few days. It normally takes me 2 or 3 tries to get a color right. Even the gloss level can effect the final look of the color. I already have a tilt column apart for rebuild, and I will start with those upper pieces,as far as trial colors go. You can get new short arm rest in red,but I actually found a pair of the long arm rests,in red, from an Impala/Caprice,same base, and they are mint. The seat covers & door panels are coming from Legendary. It will be a pretty cool winter project. I'll keep you guys posted with pictures. Yes,the p-shooter exhaust is coming off. I'm actually restoring another complete chassis to swap under there.
Not sure what silver you chose, but mine is a newer color with a gold pearl in it. You've made a lot of progress on that car. Looks great.
Pearl is my favorite, and I have hoarded a lot of pearl interior parts over the years, but I am keeping those for another car.
My Burnished Cinnamon 71 Stage 1 is getting a color change. Either white or firegkow. Either way I'm doing a pearl interior, I live in the desert. Theres a really good thread about dying parts pearl.
Yea,I've nailed-down the pearl, when I've needed to dye parts pearl. I was considering it for this, but I'm always up for a challenge.Red should do it. It's either going to look really cool,or look really bad,but here goes.
Bet that pearl makes it pop in the sunlight! Mine is a 70 that was originally silver, but I liked the 71 silver better, so that's what I went with. Thanks, still a lot left to do, as I'm sure you know all too well
