I acquired another 70 GS. The car was originally gulf stream blue, with blue interior. I bought it as a painted roller, and it is now bright silver. I am debating whether to retain the blue interior,or switch it to black. Yes,you could also do other colors, but I have enough black, and I also have enough of the core blue pieces,to retain that. It's a bucket/console car,so it has the original blue console, and stuff like that. If I switched,I would sell the blue stuff, instead of dying it black. I actually wished they left it gulfstream blue, but it is new paint, and done pretty well.
Put the black interior in it and save the blue interior in case you decide to do a color change down the road? I'm a one Skylark guy, not an owner of many, so if it was my decision I would just dye the blue stuff black and drive the hell out of it....Jim/Rott
If the paint is new + nice, then I think you should go with the black. You could have ordered a silver car with blue, but if you have black stuff, I think it would look better. It's doubtful it would ever be changed back to a blue exterior because it's not matching #'s. The downside is painting the upper + lower dash to black if it's blue now.
All of the glass is still out,so when I remove the pad,I can paint the metal section of the dash. You are correct,it is not a number-matching car,and since the paint is new,and done right,I have no plans for painting it again. It will be a fun,street/strip car.
Or you could change it to white. Still uses a black dash, carpets and seat belts. It would really pop with a white interior
I agree with the pearl white interiorThinking of putting a pearl white interior in my silver fern 1971 Stage 1 with NOS black vinyl cover Pearl white really pops. Alain
Well...apparently some of you haven't worked dyeing, painting or matching pearl white. Of all the colors, I think it's the most difficult. Just dyeing the armrests from blue or black to white would be brutal. Although it's true what Jason said, then you could keep the dash black.
Yes,the 70-71 pearl white is one of the harderst colors to duplicate, but I have done it. I had also considered pearl. I have a mint pair of headrests and seat plastics, and a few pieces of windlace, but I would need the sides. That red 70 Stage 1 prototype, with the ALL white interior,is my favorite. Very cool.
You could think out of the box with a phantom color and go red on the interior! That would take some doing but would look so cool. A silver car with a red interior. You would have everyone scratching their heads with that one!
I actually thought about red. Silver & red look real sharp. I just wouldn't want to dye too many pieces. Some of the 70 Chevelles & GTOS had red,so I could possibly source the windlace, seat belts, and headrests from those. I would want it to look like it could have actually came that way.
The dark blue bucket interior would look stunning in a silver car. Particularly a silver car without a vinyl top. But I tend to agree, they should have left it Gulfstream Blue. If you sell the interior, the owner of this car is interested, particularly in the console.
Yes,it is an aftermarket silver. Brighter than the 70 silver, and plenty of pearl or metallic. NO vinyl top. Never had one. Also a non-AC car,so it has the single-vent dash, and the kickpanels with two pulls. I'll get it into my garage and sort things out. Make a decision from there. If I don't keep the blue,it will all be for sale.
Go white interior. White goes with every exterior color & where you live black interior gets too hot.
