o No: A relative of my neighbor is thinking of selling his '69 Skylark (original, unmolested, low-miles, "like new" (<50K), 350 w350trans, sport wheels, AC) asking $7K. Is this too high or too good to be true? Thanks, Mark:TU:
Mark, I would think the car would have to be absolutely rust free, straight as a pin, and pretty much in showroom condition to warrant a 7K pricetag. This is just my opinion, but there are a few 69's out there that are in fine shape for less than 1/2 that number. Check out the Cars For Sale forum and you will see what I'm talking about.
Thanks Bill, That's what I was thinking. Been considering a few different cars & narrowing my search down to Skylark or GS. Just needed $ opinions. Thanks again.
Might not be a bad price for a 69 GS if in excellent condition, but definitely high for a Skylark. Look for Alan W's 69 Skylark in the cars for sale forum. It's a beauty!
David, Saw your's on Members Rides-NICE! Looked up Alan's which looks like a nice one. But if I add new tires and seat repair to his price and compare to a possible lower negotiated price on the other (which needs no $ put into it), would the difference in price make sense?
I put buckets in my car last year. The seats cost me 50 bucks, the console was 30. The foam and backing cost about 60, the seat covers and trim were 300 ish and the cover and foam installation was around 250. The brackets to but in the seats were 50 (I think). About 750 bucks- but that was a complete restoration and swap, with a console, too. If I had just done my bench over it would have been cheaper. So that's a very rough estimation of what seats could be "worth". Of course, they are never worth quite as much as they cost you. Repairs are funny things. I feel a lot of people feel repairs increase the value of their car. I do not think this is so. When the car broke, it's value decreased . When it is repaired, at best, it's value gets increased back to what it was before it broke. No increase in base value, just a restoration to initial value. Otherwise, a POS that is constantly breaking and being repaired is a very valuable car. I think 7 grand is a little pricey for a '69 Skylark, unless it has some very hard to get options and is in very good condition, is a complete, unrestored car in very good condition, or it has been given quality restoration work. A car documentably owned by a famous person may command a price like that, as well, if it's a plain Jane car. My car was in fairly rough shape when I bought it in '89- when muscle car prices were sky high. I paid 3 grand for a convertible with a 350 two barrel- but that was standard equipment, not an option. All the numbers matched. It needed a LOT of work, and was 3 grand, when prices were silly.
If its completely mint I'd want to pay $5000 for it. Im not in the market for another car though. ________ Web Shows
Mark, If your seriously looking, check this one out: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13753 I personally saw this car and I have to say it is definitely worth a look see. And you could drive it home without a worry. Contact Alan and speak to him about it. He's had this car for quite some time now (through college and beyond). And I'm sure you can play Monty Hall (Let's Make A Deal) with him. He's a real solid guy and would really like to see her go to someone who appreciates the 69's.
