I'm never throwing anything even remotely related to my car away again. Period. I can't even tell you how much stuff I've had to buy back that I know I had in stock at one time. Nope. Never.
I’ve got to add my $.02. I absolutely love reading this type of thread!! I certainly enjoy the ones where a much needed part is sold to a new home & the threads that cover interesting reference or documentation information. But this thread covers a Real topic with some Really funny responses. I myself struggle with throwing things away. NO, I don’t consider myself a hoarder. I think true hoarders keep most everything. I only try to keep something if I’m 99% sure I can use it in the future. I keep parts for my older cars (I’d never keep a wiper arm from something like a 2004 Civic). I also keep things for home repair. We just bought a rental house last Friday. The “old” faucets that were replaced in our home (that were in perfect working condition) will be perfect for the bathrooms I’ve got to update before we rent it. People that aren’t DIYers and that aren’t into cars probably think I have issues. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have no ability or interest in tackling my own problems. ALSO, I wonder what it would be like if my one and only passion was golf. Where most everything I’d need for my free time activity would fit in a golf bag that could be stored in a small coat closet. Oh well, enough of that line of thought. I’ll stay just like I am. Mark
Remans are under $40. I'd use it as a core and get myself a spare good remanned one to take with you on road trips or just to have. (I've got spare distributors, water pumps, fuel pumps, etc. for all my stuff to throw in the trunk for when I go on road trips.)

Hahahaha....yessir! I drive a long, long ways away from home in my old stuff, though. The Caddy went to Vegas and back. The F100 is going to do the Pacific Coast Highway and then part of Route 66 either this summer or next along with my older brother's Challenger R/T. Having a water pump, distributor, and a mechanical fuel pump is only about $100 in spare parts from NAPA or the like and can save you a lot of headaches on the road when in the middle of nowhere and it's Sunday night. EDIT: My F100 will be running on a FiTech fuel injection system by the time I go, but when I do that road trip I'll have everything with me to convert back to a carb "just in case" including a spare Holley or Edelbrock AFB because I have one of each sitting on the shelf.
when I ran g/stock with my 73, the w/pumps didn't last long. at the time sealed power was making new pumps in a cast iron housing. this solved the w/pump failure problem. try and find a pump in cast iron......
