Hello, newbie here. Picked up a very original’67 Riviera in May and I’m slowly getting it back together.

Which oil filter should I use? It came with a Wix 51049 but the local auto parts store lists a Wix 51258. The 51258 is shorter. Any suggestions? Thanks,

    Tom

Wix 51258 will work fine. I have a pile of them in my stairway.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

The Wix 51049 does not have an anti-drain back valve, you need that on filters that are "sideways". The Wix 51258 has the valve and is the desired filter for Buicks.

Wix 51258, Napa Gold 1258, AC Delco PF24.

Correct, the cheby v8 has the filter hanging straight down from the block, so no drain-back needed.

Thanks everybody, I’ll use the 51258.

I used to use fram until I found out they are about the worst for every product they make. Amsoil filters are also crap. Makes me wonder about their oil.
