Went to a little show last night and within 10 seconds had a crowd around us! We had to park in the forbidden zone too; corvettes (I think???) with lotsa billet and poster boards blah blah blah... Everyone got a kick outa the blaster. We took off and did a 1-2-3 in front of Custers and even shocked my own bad self. Didnt quit shakin' till this morning. Even Pat was a little concerned when we took over 1-1/2 lanes. It was TOO BAD!! The SBC is a 383 in a beater 1970 Nova a la Patina too. Notice the rack and pinion... ws
Las night was fun. When Bill mentioned going we left dirty dishes sitting to jump up and leave. After the burnout (freaked me out) we stopped at a new place in town for ice cream. Wonderful when it is in the 50's. Summer can get here already. Next week might have to take the '64 and the '72. We shall see. Sit Bertha and the Bad Lad side by side....ppat
Sorry, I don't drive stick. Never learned. Bill tried teaching me with the Model T but just never got it. I will admit this baby sure seems smooth so I might take a stab at it later in the year. ppat
Pat's off in the XGS tonight for a meeting. She loves that car! I finished the rear brakes on the '64 today. 1-1/2 hours on the DS and about 25 minutes on the PS. Its still got a hard pedal, as in no power assist. Any ideas? Probably timing is off LOL, but the vacuum runs about 20 IhG underway. Out of the last 5 master cylinders I had on there, one had a correct feeling pedal, so I doubt its the booster. Any way to test the booster in place? Is there a check valve on it? Theres a plastic sleeve on the inboard end for the air filter (to the booster) thats torn up. I think thats just an air seal. Pedal to booster linkage out? Ideas? That SOG (son of a gun) sure likes to peel out! From a 10mph roll it lights them up and for an open gear it still feels good! Heres a local sighting today. Local shows are starting to pop... ws
Kindred spirits, my friend....this one was very clean, but I'd yard the wheels off for your setup any day.
Bill. Engine off, press the pedal several times then press and hold and start the engine, the pedal should drop slightly and hold. Then take your foot off the pedal and run the car for a minute, shut the engine off and then press the pedal, slowly three or four times, you should feel it gradually lose "boost" and the pedal get firm as in non-powered brakes. Then, engine off, pull the hose from the vacuum source and put a cloth over the end of the hose and blow. The valve in the booster should not let any air past. Then "draw" and you should have no restriction. (the cloth is to keep from sucking the spiders into your mouth...)
Nothing worse than sucking a spider, ah er, well maybe swallowing a bee out of a can of soda. That hose was open for some time as well. I do need to re-route the source from the intake manifold though... When I did this job, the base of the edelhoser was the easiest to tap and thats a manifold vacuum port. The judges beat me up on that already. Ill also check to see that Mr. Spider didnt get sucked into the carb port. Up here we always have to tape or plug off anything that resembles a cave; especially gas and propane stuff. Hope that spider VAPES! So today Ill prove the booster then re-do the vacuum line to a manifold tap and see what happens. The odd thing is that the PB's were good on one MC but then lousy on the others. Hmmm. That carb isnt metered after all is it? Its just like a dodge AFB haha... The OEM pic shows the connection that the PO had busted (yellow circle) and that was on the manifold. I just happened to grab a fitting that worked outa the "spares drawer". The shiny black tube goes to the vacuum gage. Jabrillo was wonerin' the same thing... ws
Got Supremo puttin' backerds lambo doors on the 64... That oughta throw the judges off... yeah, right. How about downsizing on the ginormous 16 in steering wheel instead. Kinda looking for a 11-1/2" to 13" light blue metalflake wheel for the nostalgia look. Need the hub and guts with it. I just know theres a bunch hanging on the shop walls collecting dust and rust (hopefully not too much rust). That 16" wheel in yer lap looks like 20" up close! Keep the big guy in mind please! ws
Here's what I run, buddy. Lots of choices in styles and colors! https://www.mooneyesusa.com/13-inch-Metal-Flake-3-Hole-3-Spoke-Steering-Wheel-p/gs250cm.htm https://www.mooneyesusa.com/Gold-and-Purple-Metal-Flake-Steering-Wheels-p/gs.htm https://www.mooneyesusa.com/13-inch-Metal-Flake-Slotted-Spoke-Steering-Wheel-p/gs260cm.htm
Thanks pal! Those are in the running as well as Speedway too. Those are all PLUS the install kit. Need to be plug-n-play! This one is 11-1/2 inch. How close are the colors? BLUE aint always blue. Hmmm ws https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Meta...yhLQowYXtgONJsMYo_IR0V0PNfDmykgMaAhCzEALw_wcB
Yeah. I had a Mr. Gasket foam wheel back in the old days in my Special. It was very nice grip and made turning easier. (before the days of finding quick ratio boxes lying around)
My red wheel in the beater is a shade lighter than the computer makes it look. Lots of metalflake! They sell the install kits, too.
Got you guys covered for $26 ....had both in my first F150. Debating on putting them into the F100. https://www.mooneyesusa.com/category-s/639.htm
Kinda like the stomper pedal too! These days with the chinashoes, you really have to line yerself up on the pedals so you dont pull a boner being outa position. Ah, kinda like, ah... well you know! ws
Most ALL of those Edelbroke carbs. pick up the vacuum supply from the rear of the carb. so NO reason to change it Bill. Tom T.
