My understanding on the '64 and '65 hoods is that they are the same except the mounting holes for the hood ornament on '65 models.
With your fabricating skills maybe you could modify that air cleaner base to be a drop base? Be a shame to chop that pristine hood (personal opinion)
Glad to hear you were able to get the car out for a drive!

Thanks Mike! Just a few odds and ends to finish up on... some engine timing, and squealing belts; no biggy at all.

For years Ive fought with leaking valve covers. I pulled my decent OEM leakers of and changed over to repop chrome jobs. I used a 1/8" bead of Right Stuff on the cover, placed the gasket and installed the VC "kinda snug". Putzed around for 15 minutes with some other stuff and then finished tightening the bolts to
"10 ft lbs" as per the book. Good and snug with a nut driver LOL... After an hour drive around town, not even o drop of leakage. It was well worth the 14.00 for a half size caulking tube. Beats the crap outa RTV or weaherstrip adhesive by a mile. Very little sqeeze out too. 5 stars for this stuff!

With all 12 fingers crossed, Im happy to say this motor which was "terminal" came back to life nicely. One day, maybe this winter after a good breakin, Ill do a compression test, but it sure seems to be a smooth runner! ws

Thanks! Its still wearing 1980 DIRT LOL...
Was out for Sunday breakfast and saw a few rods for Luke. The 65 Ford is on a 1972 F150 4x4 frame. The guy also has a 1965 GP undergoing some work. Then we saw the new kid in town. 1957 Olds. This is a creampuff! Reminds me of a Jerry Lee Lewis song... ws

How about something retro like a teardrop bubble scoop!
Love the high stance of the car. Just like the good old days!

Attitude is everything Walt; and this guys got the look, and a smooth ride to boot! Still considering a change to the hood lines, but I had a teardrop scoop on a '67 muskrat (!) and thought it looked weird. Like something out of a japanese godzilla movie LOL... I still like the cowl induction look. Low, long and lean!
'67 Gs scoops would be cool too, but wont afford any more air cleaner clearance.

I sent the seller a question about a drop base for the finned air cleaner. N/A, but in the same letter they offered a full refund with me paying the shipping though. I think Ill keep it for when the quadrajet goes on. That'll be lower and less the 1" adapter as well. I wanna see how the oval filter clears the carb and maybe fab my own lowered base. That edelhoser has an electric choke thats not hooked up and i dont really need it. That takes up valuable space too.

So I guess Ill hafta rebuild the Q jet I have. Its off a 1975 Poncho 455 800 cfm. Last ran when shut off with 4 spun rods and a bad fuel pump in about 1995, LOL... Ideas? Remarks? Modifications??

I still dont know how the PO lifted that motor on that single wire ???? ws

Hey Bill, are you in need of a fan guard for your radiator top plate? I just found one in my stash you could have if you need it.

You bet Nick! That IS the part that bolts onto the face of the radiator top plate no? Maybe like 8" x 14" ? Im pretty convinced I dont need a shroud, but that fan spinning in your face kinda freaks me out. Ill PM you shortly OK. Is this about right?? Woodja believe I was a draftsman at Hendrickson Mfg. in Lyons???ws

Yep, that's pretty close to how it looks. It's got a welded nut on each end and bolts right onto the top plate. Hmmmn, I wonder if Hendrickson is still there? I haven't been down that way in a while. Looking at your fan, it seems it could use a small spacer to get it a little closer to the rad and be a little more covered by the fan guard. My original 4 blade fan has a spacer that is about 1 1/2" or 2" long.

Thats the OEM 20" 455 clutch fan that I reduced the diameter on to 17" for the 64 shroud that wont quite fit right. With the clutch on it, theres about 1-1/4" to the radiator. It moves a TON of air. I have 2 spacers if YOU need one. 2 different lengths I think.

I was at Hendrickson from 73-74 and management sucked. Then I had to work for a few sucky boys that soured the stew even more-so. Corporate had moved last I heard to Lemont Rd and I-55 (N.E.) with Mfgring in Mexico IIRC. The best part of that job was Virginia H. ran the office and held the girls to a high standard of a dress code; NO PANTS EVER! Ah... those were the days. Even the dogs looked good!

There was an Owens brother (they were from the 'Ridge I think), they called him ZIP. He's about 63-65 now. We used to hang at Prime -N-Tender and Mr.Charlies on 63rd. What great times! Music and Fashion were always the passion...... ws

So being the cheap bastard that I am, I cheaped out when I shoulda done it while I was there, and didnt. Last winter one of the major upgrades was a dual master cylinder with all new hoses and brake lines. I had all the drums off for an inspection, and at 33,000 miles the OEM paint was still on the springs. I rolled the dice and shot CRAPS. I really wanted to change out the wheel cylinders, but it wasnt in the budget THEN. Now it turned around and bit me in the Huevos. Been dealing with the chinamaster cylinders leaking and not pumping etc. I finally manned up and changed stores/brands. Crack Auto only gets Duralast stuff. Well wouldnt ya know it but #5 is leaking. Thats coming off tomorrow and getting the NEW Cardone unit. The box says Made in, Hecho en, and Fabrique a.... BLANK. I cant necessarily blame Wun Long Tung if this one leaks , but he's still a person of interest LOL. The Carquest guys are aware of my predicament and promised me an exchange if this one is NFG. Its more original, as theres no bail wire across the top. Its got a cover with a shouldered bolt. More comprehensive bleeding instructions as if that matters, but no bleeder hose kit. Hmm. Just 2 bleeder plugs. Bench bleed it with the plugs installed and the master is done. Im a stickler for following instructions hahaha.

So the crap shoot was not changing the wheel cylinders.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:. OK, so I look in the mirror and see Uranus. I can take it. The last two times in the shop have produced a small puddle under the DS rear. About a spoonful. DAMN. So I changed out the 2 NEW Bendix units today. The DS has a soaked shoe set and the PS was getting wet around the seals. Of course one of the bolts broke off taking it apart, but FOUR new stainless ones with never seize went back in. New wheel cylinders for the front are due in tomorrow. I may wait for them to start leaking. One job at a time. The '64 front drums come off with the hub. That means pull the wheel bearings apart etc. but at least the bearing job was already done so no surprises there. GOOD GAWD! Another should have, but Im not in there now.

Tomorrow is devoted to Pat. She's having the spinal cord stimulator turned on, and I get to hold the control LOL. ws

TROLLING??? Nah, Im in search of a horn relay or reasonable replacement for the '64. This guy is HOT to the horns, but the ground from the steering wheel livens the coil to close the points. Any ideas. I dont do electronics LOL...The coil wires are finer than frog hair; and who knows if the coil is good...

Got the fan cover put on NICK. Thanks a million! ws
