Sounds just me. I just did that on Saturday with my leaf blower when it wouldn't start and stay running this Spring. If don't smash it, I'll just keep wasting time trying to get it running right. Jefferson swap meet coming up this weekend. There will be hundreds of them there. That last one was $25 and it lasted 3 years. Maybe I'll get lucky again. I'd get a new one but I hate spending money on things I really don't want. Car parts are more fun:D

Im sold on the 24VDC electric stuff. Two batteries and yer good for the day! I have a B&D weed whacker and can do the whole yard with one battery. Just a thought...

Jefferson is 3 days this year with over 3100 vendors. At least it isnt August like Iola. Still almost too big to do with Pat. She's a good egg, but can only handle so much grease and rust and the walking with COPD. I should talk! Hope you get a smashing string of deals Bill! Ill be doing boat stuff on and off for the next few weeks. ws

Anyways, took the 455 fan and clutch off and swapped in the 4 blade V6 fan. A ton more room. I hope this dont turn into an electric fan issue, although there is a 100 Amp alternator now.

All 4 wheels are on the ground. Just sluggin' along...

Got some boat stuff done. My N.A. helper Cameron was there to help. Pretty sharp guy... show him once and he remembers it for a year. Oneida Injun! Found a REED industrial vise at a garage sale for 10.00. Got it home, and of course, spent an hour cleaning and painting it. Nice. ws

I COMPLETELY agree with the guy in that video! LOL FYI...…….the radiator in my 64 AlphaLark build, is from Ron Davis Racing and with the electric fan setup I'm into it for $1400. Sounds crazy, I know, but if you want to keep a $30K engine from overheating, I can guarantee it won't happen with an econo piece of S&#t! A mildly built 455 is different, but still requires a "good" radiator......maybe not $1400 good, but a $130 chunk of aluminum won't do it! LOL

    Bill,
My original 300 v8 also had a 4 blade fan, but if I'm not mistaken the a/c equipped cars had a 6 blade fan. Might be worth checking into. Hopefully some better educated '64 guys than myself will chime in here. Was there a fan on the a/c parts car you got some stuff from?

All I have is the 7 blade clutch fan. The fan itself is trimmed down to 17". I may just bolt that up sans the clutch, but theres a 3" bore in the fan hub, so thats and adapter I hafta make to bolt onto the water pump... ws

Wow $1400 for a radiator & fans, that is insane!

I certainly understand the importance of a good cooling system and all, but that's just simply lining someone else's pocketbook.

    Go a
Go ahead and build yourself a 800 to 1200 HP BBB and prove to me that a cheap radiator is going to keep it cool. I've done this over and over in the past and discovered that it just doesn't work. For a drag only car...... maybe, but for actual street use you need a good cooling system.......and a good system costs some serious $ because of the time and components that are put into it.
Building high HP cars is EXPENSIVE, no way around it. Is it insane? Yes, I believe it is, but then so am I for wanting to build and own such toys!

Building a mild street car is a whole different animal, but once you progress from that it's tough if not impossible to go back......... it just lacks the "adrenaline punch"! So.....spend the money and time or sit on the sidelines and watch......only options, and I chose to not sit and watch!

Got those inner fenders put in yesterday. Struggled for an hour + trying to wedge that baby in there on the passenger side (more room)... forget it! Pulled the fender off and it was a half hour before it was re-hung. The drivers side was pull and play. About 30 minutes for the whole job and with the shims all marked, went right back together.

A note on shimmage. Its a botch to keep them all lined up and not drop into the abyss; I used some spray glue and made a shim pack. I only wish they had the grab knobs on them!

A lot of the radiator stuff is starting to look less intimidating. Its becoming a bit clearer each time I look/think about it. probably gonna go with a 3 or 4 row Champion Radiator. the guy that sold me the Special is a Champ. dealer. I get one at cost drop shipped to the Casa del Milagro! ws

So Nick from here posted this as a For Sale Lead, and of course I had to look closely at it. I was of course curious about the 455 install with a stock downflow radiator. I put a feeler out to the seller with some questions. I dont expect an answer from someone trying to sell, but ya never know.

So Pat and I met up with Bill "Golden Oldie" at Jefferson this morning for a '65 cross flow core support. At least thats what we think it is. Side by side with mine, its very different. I may just use the lower cross bar to accomodate a wider rad. Drill out the spot welds and refit.

Between the wagon and the one for sale in Milwaukee, I am beginning to notice lots of differences/similarities. Like a 63 Impala front end on a 64 model. Sometimes I wonder if gramma didnt crash mine and some shop tossed a 65 front on it. Hmmm. The venti-ports on the front fenders are wayyy off.

Today was beautiful, and tomorrow looks like a slush storm coming. Thats gonna shut down the swap fun on Saturday and be a ghost town Sunday. Poor vendors. A ton of work for naught. Bill was planning on today only and we hooked up at 0800 on the road next door. Thanks again Bill! Back to the grind tomorrow! ws

Happy to help, Bill. It was great meeting you and hope we can do it again when we have more time. It was a good day at Jefferson today, I found a nice Stihl leaf blower for $85. My old one just crapped out last week. And a set of Richmond 12 bolt 3.08 gears with only 600 miles on them for $100. They are going in my El Camino. Also bought a couple new tires for the car and a few other small treasures. They keep increasing the expected snowfall amounts for tomorrow. Last I looked it was 5-8". Glad we got all our shopping done today.

How are your ventiports way off? They should be above the fender body line on a 64. If your car has a 65 front end on it no doubt easy to tell. The fenders will show it where the bumper meets them.

Thanks again Bill. Glad you went while the wentin' was good. Looks like theres gonna be a mass exodus this afternoon. Gonna be a soupy mess!

Brian... Mine are/were missing and Clanceyman was good enough to send me some leftovers from his project. Mine match the position thats on the wagon. Thats about 1-1/2 to 2" above the spear and forward maybe 6 inches from the door edge.. The coupe in Milwaukee has them at least 3" above the fender spear, and the rear one is almost at the door/fender joint. Id still like to come in with a 500.00 offer to split with someone for parts! ws

That car in MI must have migrated. It was on the south side if Chi-town for a few years. I think it was listed on CL for about 4-5 years..the ad always ran with the work will keep going into it and the price will go up.

It looks like the car never changed. I think it started out at about $4300 then went down to $3400.... Not sure if it went lower.

It would be a good $500 parts car but that's about it. That car will likely decinigrate once an air tool hits it.

And I'm not grabbing at that bait.... lol

Sometimes it 'tis and sometimes it "taint". Hmmm

Took the new Gulag tools out for a spin today. Well the "Climpers" anyray...Didnt get around to the BREEDER yet, but read the instructions carefully.
Crimpers performed an"ok" job, but not up to my standards. I just couldnt swing 50.00+ for the ratcheting jobs. Lesson TAUGHT.

Golden Oldie helped me out with a '65 cross flow core support. We both noted issues, but the cross section was pristine. Drilled out the one side spot welds and the other side's were gone. Didnt get to the bar though. Theres a substantial difference between the V6 CS and this one. Im gonna pull the CS tomorrow and replace it with this. Now the car can get a 4 row 26 X 18 inch aluminum radiator. Especially needed room for the lower 455 outlet. I guess ya gotta see it to appreciate it. Cleaned and primed and ready for action.

Some comments between here and 65GS.com about the washer bottle. Some say black plastic for 1964 yet mine is/was white. Part number is outlined if that matters. I like white. Note the original cap. Also the hood front edge. I guess I have a '64, no? No tickie no washie... ws

Bill, specialty tools like those wire crimpers it pays to get better quality imo.

Your washer reservoir looks similar to the 63's. There both white with black lids and the lids look somewhat similar. I'd say it is correct, but I am no expert.

I hafta take for granted all the stuff is OEM. The original owner "gramma" parked the car in 1980 with 33K on it. IIRC the build was April of '64. ws
