I have a `94 GMC Z-71,been a good truck, but for quit sometime now i have noticed a gas smell. You only smell it on the passenger side after you've driven it enough to warm it up.When you like drive it home from work and go around and open the passenger side door the smell is very noticeable, too me anyway. I've it took back to the GM dealer twice and had them check it out,but they can't seem to find any leaks or anything out of the ordinary. They admitted to the gas smell though. I'm getting rather annoyed by it,anyone have any idea or opinion what or where the smell might be coming from? Thanks,Jeff
You might have them check the evap purge selenoid, and also check the fuel pressure regulator. If the regulator starts to leak, usually you will have hard starting (long crank times) and poor gas mileage along with the smell of gas after a drive cycle. Neither one of these will turn on the check engine light in most cases, but with a computer you should be able to see what kind of fuel correction that the PCM is trying to make.
Thanks! Hey Mike, Thanks for the trouble shooting tips,i'll have them check those 2 things out next time i have a chance.Whatever it is,doesn't seem to affect performance or mileage. No long cranking either. One those weird deals that turns up every so often i guess. Getting tired of smelling gas everytime of have to use the passenger side door though!:ball:
Now That's Funny! Hardy-har-har..........Here's some gas back at you!:moonu: I only wish it would be as simple as using Beano!:gt:
