new bottom seat springs installed ....1 back seat spring replaced now primered & painted up and waiting for hog rings and pliers from ebay
well first time doing this and bottom seat was easy but that back was a beech ,lots of cussing but we got it done they say Legendary the best quality but see those 2 dimples on the side of seat back where the horizontal straps are they dont disappear its internal leftover of the strap ...the small dimples on the bottom seat disappeared with some massaging and a single shot of steam
Well we finished the buckets ..the seat backs gave me a hard time but they came out very nice ..especially for a first timer just need new headrests ....and now we are into the rear seats and they seem to be much easier to do I cant see myself doing this day in and day out for a living ,kudos to the guys that do this for a living ....they must /have to love
Bought some repo headrests off of ebay but had to send em back . They had blemishes and tiny pinholes and just looked cheesy ,I cant believe they would send something like that out ... so just thinking of wrapping up originals with the PUI covers
Center console all done came out good bought the Buick console insert from TPP but it came with defects . I cant believe they dont visually check these before sending them out, so now dealing with their ebay set up for a replacement/return and they wanted pics and now ignoring me for 2 days
Still here ...just a long break from the project and we have installed console/shifter and front buckets ,rears after the glass comes in and then panels of course . Also main concern and always on my mind is working around the car and being careful not to scratch/scuff it up so far so good with a few close calls though .
Yo Frank! With something that looks that nice, you oughta go to the second hand store and buy a ton of kingsize used flannel bed sheets for a buck or two each, and use el cheapo spring clamps to hold them in place!
I have those complete cheap car cover plastic with the elastic on bottom off of ebay ...but bed sheets are a good idea ,my mother should have some bed sheets from Sears circa 1970 still in package NOS make her pop out her old sewing machine and give her something to do ,they love being useful at that older age
Haven't posted in a while here....still here waiting on the big parts . Been tinkering with A/C parts and other small parts.. Glass for all around is in town ,have to pick it up from a Pilkington factory in Chicago suburb where it was 'shipped to for a savings of $300 on shipping .... Cant wait to install the glass so I can get the front/rear door panels on and rear seats in .And then hopefully motor will be in by then and we really get into gear & mood. last few items left to order is exhaust and driveshaft (Strange Engineering is 5 miles away ) and that's it I believe and done . Was planning on new aluminum radiator/electric fans and aux trans cooler with flex lines ,but we just finish her up with the original radiator and stock fan setup ,will do the upgrades later once we get her road worthy and broken in ,plus give us smaller projects later on.
Wow started this thread in April 2005 ...14 years ago... been slow going but we getting there.....hopefully before it starts rusting up
It will cost you double of what it is worth! And take 2 years of your life. And if you have never done this ..than you will never complete this! GSXER, Apr 6, 2005
Well ...got the Pilkington glass all laid out in garage and looks good/ok ....but I was overexcited about their name and assumed the quality was the best but glass is thinner and maybe 20% lighter than original glass . some of the glass made in USA some made in Mexico Cant beat original glass -fact - door and 1/4 glass going on first this week ....windshield and rear next week
Frank I love that color! Looks awesome, can't wait to see it with all of that gleaming triple plated chrome!
Just installed TPP roof rail seal ......the good ones with the formed corner ....good piece money well spent . Got the door glass installed and now on to the 1/4 windows and then start alignment up . Got the vertical chrome and seal from Cars inc ,made in Taiwan stuff ....I dont like em, feels light and will scratch up easy plus that glass tape they give you simply tears up and very hard to put on ....will use glass urethane instead maybe use little urethane on them so they come off easy till I find some good shape originals
well we have finished all the rear panels up and installed ,the tops needed a little install finessing but came out great as well as recovering the lower armrest which came out sweet ...I layered in an extra thin layer of foam what they gave me in the kit did not seem like enough...including more better padding at arm rest ......very happy with these Back seats fit in perfectly tight ...I also added extra layer of cotton padding on seat bottom and back and much firmer than usual -I like ....took a 3 hour nap in em already Used #8 screws BLACK instead of the chrome screw on the 1 upper and also lower 2 on arm rest, will do same with door panels . looks classier and hidden/camouflaged like ...the chrome to much Bling Bling we are also into the door panels .... I am not to happy with the quality of Legendary door panels ...maybe I was expecting more . the upper carpet section wasn't even glued in and I had to trim plenty as well .and very cheap cardboard /paper, cheap staple and cheap glue and the new clips are hanging on this cheap paper .......I don't like em ... The vinyl needed lots of trimming for the chrome inserts as well as the carpet section . the fake wood decal is cheap and tiny bubbles here and there and the impression that goes around the center is not there as much as originals or not pressed in enough ....I ordered the essex carpet for the door panels ,paid extra and got no glue on em Next time I do a car interior I am just going for cheaper price ....quality cant be worse ,sometimes people spend the big money and think they got quality .....I say bs
I have the plastic paper /shield installed front and rear I have almost a quart of clear coat left over and contemplating spraying 2 coats on the rears of door panels for longevity and to maybe stiffen them up a bit ....hmm might even start eating the cardboard up ,who knows
Hi guys ...and gals .....been mia for a while ,I had a stroke back in sept 2019 I walk into my garage and quitely/silently tear ...I'am still recovering slowly and hope to be back in action by 2021,I hope and cant wait
