while I'm waiting for headliner #2 I decided to play with my original sail panels ...I dont like the simple flat ones
the originals have that shape thing going on /The originals are brittle /fragile lil moldy so we carefully peel old headliner and
clean with soapy rag let it dry and then spray some white vinegar on em and time for some fiberglass resin and cloth .....should work good

well.....this is what we do when waiting on parts/bored and trying to work systematically :D and at least the holes for the dome lights line up perfect

after putting on some thin fiberglass cloth and resin and some primer for the heck of it we have
plastic sail panels with the original curves and still flexible .

Now 45 years later somebody will find these after my son
junks the car and report on this vary forum about finding fiberglass sail panels on a GS (rare option ) :):)

so now we 80 grit them so the glue can stick better

Received headliner #2 after waiting 2 weeks .......and problem with 4 areas of unusual clumping/wrinkle that will not flatten out
even after steaming right out of the box not installed on car and more like an indentation .....also had a 7 inch scratch on it near drivers seat position.

so peed off .....called the seller and they threw me to the manufacturer REM ....they wanted a few pics emailed ...20 minutes later they called me
and said they sent out another one directly to me and couldn't explain the clumping up or the scratch ...the only thing they said it
could of been was the way it was stored by retailer or possibly a prior returned item that was sabotaged ...

had 4 of these, imo it looks like if someone gripped it with vice grip pliers on purpose
    20170523_143719_resized.jpg

So kudos to REM .....they took care of business with no fuss no muss quickly
and nay to CARS inc.....who should of handled it all

I'm a retailer myself ....when customers come back with gripes I take care of business on the spot ,I dont send them to
fight with the manufacturer, return customers are important

The first headliner a month ago came out pro looking ,I should of just left it alone but I pulled to hard and ripped near a relief
cut near sail area exactly at corner of quarter window ....:(

Just finished my 71' skylark restoration, actually I should say my son-in-law and I did. We did an almost frame off. Just removcd all body mounts and lifted the body about 6 inches to sand blast the frame and under body. Left the emergency brake cable connected so it was not completely separated. We stripped the car to the bare metal disassembled it replaced the floor pans, replaced 3/4 of the drivers side rear quarter with Goodmark sheet metal. Did the lower front fender patches. Worked evenings sometimes til midnight, most time around 10pm and nearly half a day on most saturdays. Both of us have full time jobs. He works for his dad and uncle restoring classic cars during the day and comes home to his own body shop til bedtime. It took us 3 years and and we had the car together and back apart twice. Hardly anything on the car that is not new, including the a/c, wiring, all glass, you name it. More stainless bolts than one can carry. Bumpers rechromed at a cost of 1350 dollars. Did not skimp on anything. The car is gorgeous, done in C10 White and the GSX decal package. It is not a Clone, I used the Skylark hood and hand painted the stripes on it. The little decal on the back edge of the spoiler says SKYLARK by Buick. If it is not white it is Trim Black. The side stripes are done in gloss because we cleared the stripes on the hood so they can't be felt so the side stripes had to match. Complete interior purchased through The Parts Place and Ausley's Chevelle was dropped shipped from PUI Interiors in LaGrange, Ky. including buckets seats which are done in the Buick stitching as well as the cover for the back seat which I purchased from a friend in New Mexico. Built the 455 bored 40 over, TA 310 Cam, TA Roller Rockers, SP1 Single Plane Intake, 700R4 with shift kit, 342 limited slip 10 bolt rearend with the TA Aluminum rearend plate. I'm 72 years old and I can tell you this, if I were 21 again I would never do a complete restoration on another car, even if it were given to me. I will say this, if it is worth doing, it is worth doing right. When my daughter has time she is gonna help me post a few pics of the car on your Members Rides, hopefully. One more thing, don't keep all receipts in one box. You don't want to know the actual cost.

Well headliner #3 and tight as a drum on clamps , practice makes perfect ...no rips this time and glue operation tonight .
HL #1 I ripped when pulling to hard and at a relief cut I made
HL #2 opened box and had unusual clumping /indentations of sorts
HL#3 perfect ,...and again kudos to REM who handled the situation properly

and thanks to the fella that sent me out a plastic ketchup bottle of landau glue ,no names or else he will get
bombarded :).....he told me dont play with the mickey mouse adhesive's

made a stop to Jo-ann fabric and got creative

used some thin padding for the sail panels ....they came out sweet and look super
Gm should of done this .

I had bought a new package tray ,the supposed better ones with the plastic mesh, which look good,
but after laying it in place many times I noticed its a great dust/dirt collector
and will be worse and hard to keep clean once the car is complete so I bought some vinyl
and like magic ,right over the mesh.....looks smoother and easy clean up now and will look better after I put some protecterant on it.
Was even contemplating some of the same foam I used on sail panels but it would not fit
    under the rear lip

I am starting to think I was a reupholster in a past life :)

Next phase is waiting for the new headliner wind lace all four sides and then install felt sweeps and all side windows then rear wiring and then carpet
and then hopefully wait for a July 4th sale from Legendary so we can buy front & rear door panels and armrests and seat covers ...this will be an expense so need the sale .

I bought the Essex carpet a month ago fits good & looks good ...didn't think about the door panels having the loop carpet installed already,
so I called legendary and they said 20% more on price to add the Essex to the door panels ....yikes
    thats almost $80 more.

all 4 sides of headliner wind lace came in ....from TPP , not happy with these repos so sending back
good clean up and some landau black and we reuse the old ones even though we have some scrapes on them .can
always change out later for a better used set

also note : just found that Ground up sells a complete set for Chevelles for much cheaper than buying them separately from TPP

next dilemma are the quarter window felts ....

Have the TWE brands but a no go

Tried the repop brand ..sent them back fast

The PUI brand seems to work the best out of the bunch and quality looking ...needs tweaking and a few new holes
drivers side almost perfect drop in ....not that perfect with passenger side ...just proof that not all sides are same on car
they also put a rubber seal over the chrome bead that peels off at the end after all the rubber mallet taps :)

oh and very important ...... BEST FITTING QUARTER WINDOW FUZZIES

    PUI O248-10

a few new holes needed /very little tweaking
And very good quality and the door felts as well...slight elongating of holes required on those

Another slight dilema is windows all around...I have no windshield ,it was originally cracked the rest I have but after cleaning and polishing I have fine scratches on them...and contimplating new stuff all around and the supposed best is that Pilkington ...but they want near $1200 delivered....pricey stuff

And that half the priced place up in Minnesota makes a cheesy looking windshield with that dark band on it.

I should of started a go fund me page years ago

sandblasted and then some 180 grit sandpaper
    stsandblasted.jpg

    Primed......rattle can etch prime

    stprimed.jpg

and painted up .....I used that Eastwood gold cadium kit .....actually very impressed with it.
all lithium-greased up and working & looking great like back in 1972 :D

after a 2 week ordeal of searching for a certain part and finally found it I had to take off passenger side fender & wheel well to install
blower motor wire ....should of done that way back .Very tricky and carefully put it back on not to scratch things up ...

Well after some more never ending garage cleanup jumped into the seats ,while I'm waiting for other parts

I learned that one bucket seat has about 85 hog rings and to wear a mask bcs of dust ,the back frame/springs
were like brand new clean but the bottom not ...and took plenty of pics and also some jute padding that is
used up front bottom sort of like a gasket between springs maybe for noise ...you never see that mentioned in youtube videos
